Team Lead, Early Childhood Development

Position Summary:

The Team Lead, Early Childhood Development (ECD) is responsible for the day to day operations of the Inn from the Cold’s Early Childhood Development area, Youth Zone including the supervision and coordination of the Early Childhood Development Team. The Team Lead will be tasked with orientation of direct reports in procedures, safety and program policies and procedures. They will lead staff to work from a housing focused, trauma informed practice and support families’ and lead staff within respective programs as they provide support to individuals and families. The Team Lead will develop partnerships through collaborative efforts and maintain current knowledge of available resources within the larger community.  This role will be responsible for working with the larger shelter teams as part of the case management process. The Team Lead demonstrates a commitment to providing excellent client services and contributes to a respectful and productive work environment.

Inn from the Cold works from a Trauma Informed and Harm Reduction approach with our programs. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 People Interactions:

  • Provide active leadership, coaching and role modeling for Early Child Development workers including scheduled supervision to discuss growth/challenge areas, goals and professional development requests and needs
  • Facilitate program support and provide day to day support and leadership to guests and staff
  • Ensure staffing levels are adequate for operational needs, including processing vacation requests
  • Lead daily shift updates for the communication of client and program matters and facilitate weekly staff meetings for ECD Team
  • Develop rapport and support modeling of positive relationships and boundaries
  • Maintain calendars for ECD and Youth Zone programming and schedules
  • Communicate changes within procedures/policies/updates, programming, urgent matters and other relevant information to staff
  • Organize field trips including the cost and transportation needs
  • Coordinate the ECD team and delegate tasks to staff and events where appropriate
  • Engage with clients when there is a need to address a family concern or staff need support and guidance; assess and address potential crisis situations; ensure proper safety and emergency protocols are used
  • Promote and protect the rights of clients; empower people to advocate for themselves
  • Work with other agencies involved to support collaboration
  • Ensure proper usage of communications ensuring confidentiality of clients’ information
  • Be available to provide front line duties if short staff
  • Participate in on call rotation

Documentation:

  • Maintain appropriate documentation, clear and concise notes; as well as connections with clients when addressing/following up with concern
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure mandatory certifications are obtained and IFTC core trainings are completed such as First Aid/CPR, NVCI, Indigenous Trainings, ASIST; ensure training is completed within first 6 months of employment

Requirements:

  • Post secondary diploma or degree in Childhood Development; relevant education and experience in the social service field; Level 1,2,3 required
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a leadership role and strong skills to effectively lead a staff team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills within a team environment are essential
  • Experience working in a shelter or housing environment; knowledge of housing focused shelter, harm reduction and trauma informed practice
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in working with vulnerable population
  • Current First Aid/CPR and Suicide Intervention Certification
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of community resources and supports; high degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability
  • Must be able to be depended upon to plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion
