Summer Program Leader I, Children & Youth Program

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Calgary and Southern Alberta. With over 30 years of solid community experience, 70 active programs, and comprehensive wrap around support, CCIS ensures that our services respond to the needs of ethnically diverse communities within Calgary and area.


The Summer Program Leader position is to help engage recently arrived newcomer children (ages 6-12) in a 6 week summer program. Possibility to work up to 8 weeks if youth program is also worked (2 weeks, ages 13-18).


Terms of Employment: 40 hours a week, Monday- Friday (approximately 8:30am-4:30pm) for a 6-week period (Term 1: July 2nd- July 19th, Term 2: July 29th – August 16th with a Midterm Break: July 22nd – 26th). With Wednesday Weekly Staff Meetings 4:45pm-6:45pm. Summer Program Leaders will also participate in mandatory training dates on June 16th, 22nd and 24th. *May also be considered to work as Summer Program Leader II (see separate posting).


Location: Program Leaders for the Children’s Program will be located at Calgary Islamic School, OBK Campus, at 225 28th St. SE.



•                     Lead and supervise children (ages 6-12) through daily activities in a safe and positive environment

•                     Encourage positive behavior and learning experiences in a developmentally appropriate manner

•                     Plan and facilitate a variety of daily games, crafts and other activities

•                     Work closely with program partners to ensure consistency throughout the program

•                     Supervise children during off-site field trips



•                     Be between 17 and 30 years of age at the start of employment (due to grant requirements)

•                     A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector search (or willing to attain check)

•                     Hold a current Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications (or willing to attain certification)


Assets to the Position:

•                     Fluent in a second language i.e. Arabic, Kurmanji, Tigrinia, Karen

•                     Experience working with children in recreation programs, summer camps or a similar setting

•                     Experience working with newcomer children and/or children with trauma

•                     Has a background in or is pursuing a degree/ certificate in: Social Work, Education, Social Services, Recreation or similar

•                     Has a genuine interest and experience in working with school age children

•                     The ability to form caring, responsive relationships with children

•                     The ability to work in a team environment
