6-Month Contract Position | Full-Time 

The Alex: Changing Health. Changing Lives. The Alex Community Health Centre is a not-for-profit organization that is changing how we look at health care in Calgary. Our health, housing and food programs support our most vulnerable neighbours, tackling tough health and social issues head-on. Using a multi-disciplinary team approach, we focus care on assessment, intervention and promotion of all aspects of health. We embrace a model of health care that is accessible, responsive and participatory. In addition to the Community Health Centre, we run a Seniors Health Centre, a Youth Centre, two Mobile Community Health Buses, one Dental Health Bus, four Housing First Programs, a Community Food Centre and Youth Law. 

What we do and why we do it

The Research Assistant reports to and receives direction from the Director of Strategy, Research and Evaluation and the Research Associate.  This is an entry-level position, running from October 1, 2019 – March 31, 2020.The position will require involvement in multiple administration and evaluation tasks including database support, data collection and entry, database management support, data analysis and presentation, and other tasks as assigned. 

What you will do: (job functions include but are not limited to)

  • Ensuring data accuracy and cleaning
  • Using SPSS and Excel, assisting with quantitative and qualitative data collection, organization, and management
  • Assisting with collection, cleaning, extraction, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data
  • Some data entry will be required
  • A wide range of other duties as assigned

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, psychology, statistics, or health and completion of at least an undergraduate course using SPSS
  • Data management and basic analysis skills required, with experience in SPSS and Excel
  • Good judgment and great attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a changing and sometimes stressful environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills and good manners required
  • Ability to receive direction and to collaborate with others
  • Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork
  • Tact, discretion and ability to manage confidential information
  • Experience with case record management software an asset
  • Ability to work with vulnerable populations, such as people with addictions and/or mental health challenges
