Relief Youth Worker – Youth Residential Services

The Program-

The Youth Residential Services of the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) offers an innovative Housing First approach. We support youth at risk or involved in the justice system in moving from homelessness to a life of independence. Our two residences, Raido House and Windsor Park, collaborate with CJHS community caseworkers and community resources to support youth in transitioning to adulthood.


The Position-

 Reporting to the Team Leader, the Youth Worker will be knowledgeable about the issues youth face in the cycle of homelessness. This position will work alongside the Youth Residential/Roofs for Youth team to:

o Provide guidance, support and supervision to residents

o Deal with routine and crisis situations

o Maintain a creative and sensitive approach in meeting the needs of the residents

o Role model healthy behaviour for residents

o Complete all documentation and write case notes

o Attend to cleaning and meal preparation

o Provide support to residents to developing independent living skills

o Attend staff meetings

o Knowledge of Housing First and Harm Reduction


The Relief Youth Worker will have related post-secondary education or equivalent experience, an understanding of issues related to homelessness, criminal justice and local resources. The successful candidate will have experience working with marginalized youth, strong boundaries, communication and relationship skills, crisis prevention and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates for this position are required to be available to work weekend and overnight shifts.

All candidates for the above position will have to successfully undertake a Calgary Police Information Check (CPIC) and a Child Welfare Information System [CWIS] check.
