Description

Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta is seeking a Registered Social Worker to work at our independent living facilities.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Registered Social Worker is responsible for assessing tenants, developing detailed plans, addressing barriers and quality improvement and evaluation activities.

TPFA believes seniors deserve access to affordable housing that is clean, safe and secure and supports their independence. These supports may include helping residents get the financial aid they’re entitled to, providing grief support or linking them with community resources. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general assistance and advocacy related to supportive service to all tenants
  • Work closely with the Building Manager to support the overall well-being of tenants
  • Provide current information regarding programs such as Alberta Health Care, Blue cross, AISH, CPP, OAS and related programs and services, in addition to assisting tenants in obtaining coverage for eligible services and supports
  • Offer tenants and their families the psychosocial support needed to cope with issues related to chronic, acute or terminal illness, and social isolation
  • Provide assistance towards resolution of stressful situations for tenants, inter-resident conflicts and resident family difficulties
  • Work cooperatively with tenants, their families, and other support systems when planning for relocation to a long-term care facility or other more appropriate housing alternative
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors of Social Work (BSW) OR
  • Registered Social Worker or eligible for registration with Alberta College of Social Workers
  • Valid First Aid Certificate

Experience

  • Must have experience working with seniors struggling with low income and/or homelessness
  • Able to identify prospective and current tenants who appear to meet established definitions of frailty
  • Experience in working with persons with mental illness and/or addictions

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Possess an understanding of seniors’ benefits
  • Ability to relate well with seniors
  • Familiarity with Outcome Tracker or similar system an asset
  • Ability to work as a team and individually
  • Flexibility and versatility in a constantly changing environment
  • Must complete a Calgary Police Service Vulnerable Sector Search
