Project Instructor – Bridge to Success Project for Professional Immigrant Women

Full Time Position - 37.5 hours per week

Competitive salary and benefits package

Contract to December 2020

The Project Instructor is responsible for the instruction of a 14 week course designed to increase participants’ workplace and job search skills. The course will focus on employability skill building, leadership development, and. Topics of instruction include, but are not limited to, the following: advanced computer skills, Canadian work place culture, essential work place skills, career planning, communication skills and pronunciation, resume writing, cover letter writing and mock interviews. The leadership development component will be comprised of leadership style inventory, best practices in leadership, organizational behavior, and conflict resolution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and update the curriculum for the program with assistance from the Project Coordinator
  • Participate in Project promotion, orientation and client recruitment
  • Organize guest speakers, subject matter experts, special presentations and field trips
  • Respond to the learning needs of the Project participants
  • Track and report on participant progress
  • Assist with Project evaluation and outcome measurement tools
  • Assist with regular reporting to funders and to the department manager
  • Provide instructional expertise
  • Prepare lesson and session plans adhering to the curriculum developed and goals of the Project
  • Manage all record keeping effectively and submit paper work in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assist Project Coordinator with client selection and assessment
  • Coordinate with the Project coordinator to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the pilot classes
  • Provide the Project Coordinator with the necessary information to compile statistical reports
  • When necessary, consult with the Project Coordinator and Department Manager on issues related to the Project/ participants
  • Attend and participate in CIWA events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in the area of Education, ESL Education for Adults, Communications Studies, Humanities, and/or Social Sciences
  • Certificate in TESL or equivalent
  • Experience in an ESL classroom or immigrant bridging Project environment
  • Knowledge and experience in career development/ career counselling
  • Knowledge of the Canadian language benchmarks
  • Experience with and/or sound knowledge of curriculum development considered an asset
  • Understanding of outcome measurement tools
  • Proven experience in proposal/report writing
  • Computer literacy and strong communication skills including writing skills
  • Experience working with immigrants dealing with language barriers
  • Appreciation and knowledge of cultural diversity/experience working with an immigrant population
  • Strong team work skills
  • Flexible and highly adaptive in instructional style
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude
