One-Year Term Position | Full-Time 

The Alex: Changing Health. Changing Lives.  The Alex Community Health Centre is a not-for-profit organization that is changing how we look at health care in Calgary. Our health, housing and food programs support our most vulnerable neighbours, tackling tough health and social issues head-on.  Using a multi-disciplinary team approach, we focus care on assessment, intervention and promotion of all aspects of health. We embrace a model of health care that is accessible, responsive and participatory. In addition to the Community Health Centre, we run a Seniors Health Centre, a Youth Centre, two Mobile Community Health Buses, one Dental Health Bus, four Housing First Programs, a Community Food Centre and Youth Law. 

What we do and why we do it: 

Pathways to Housing is an innovative, best-practices model for ending homelessness by providing housing first and harm reduction services.  This uniquely client-driven approach utilizes an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team that houses Calgary’s chronically homeless with multiple barriers.   

The Program Lead is responsible for the operational success of Pathways to Housing through team management, program delivery, quality control and outcome evaluation.  The Program Lead will oversee two ACT teams that provide services to chronically homeless individuals who suffer from a severe mental illness and active addiction.   As a member of the senior management team, the Program Lead ensures that the program goals and objectives are aligned with agency goals and objectives.  This is a one-year term position. 

What you will do:

  • Provide overall management and direction to this innovative program
  • Ensure program meets funder required key performance indicators
  • Analyze budgets on a monthly basis and review with Associate Director of Housing First
  • Responsible for client intakes/exits and providing guidance to teams regarding client services
  • Responsible for hiring staff and ensuring all staff required trainings are up to date
  • Responsible for program evaluation
  • Ensure compliance with high standards of Pathways housing services, programs and clinical practices while ensuring compliance with high standards of client-centered service delivery
  • Contribute to the development of a program culture that articulates and demonstrates the Agency’s values to both staff and clients
  • Provide supervision to Pathways leadership team and provide framework of supervision for other program roles
  • Ensure the program and clinical services comply with the philosophy, values, procedures and policies of the Agency and regulatory bodies
  • Write and submit proposals and reports as required. Including, but not limited to, funder annual reports
  • Represent the program at community meetings and at The Alex leadership meetings 

What you bring:

  • Master’s degree in related field preferred; experience will also be considered along with education
  • Experience working with persons living with  homelessness who suffer from serious mental illness, substance addiction and complex health issues
  • Proven leadership and demonstrated skills in supervision, clinical practice , program and fiscal management
  • Knowledge of mental health recovery models and practice
  • Solid understanding of housing first, harm reduction principles and Evidence Based Practices that show positive outcomes with mandated population
  • Experience leading an interdisciplinary  team including Nurses, Nurse Practitioner,  MOA and Medical Doctors
