REPORTS TO:                        Programs and Policy Manager



Position Summary:


The Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing all activities for the Initiative for Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (INDIE) for Alberta Non-Profits. This program promotes collaboration between ethnocultural communities and the non-profit sector to develop and use a diversity and equity lens to better equip the non-profit sector to be more adaptive, accessible and effective in addressing the needs of Alberta’s increasingly diverse communities.  The program uses community engagement, organizing, and systems change strategies.  It builds the capacity of ethno-cultural communities to provide ethnocultural lens to the non-profit sector. It supports Alberta non-profits to strengthen their diversity advantage.


The Program Coordinator will strengthen ActionDignity’s role as facilitator, convener, catalyst, capacity builder and connector to promote collaboration between ethno-cultural organizations/communities and the broader non-profit sector.


This is a full-time position of 37.5hours per week with a benefit package and requires occasional flexible time commitment.




  • Research and collaborate with the management team to identify resources/strategies related to the following priorities: (1) Reducing Systemic and Institutional Discrimination, (2) Equitable Access to Systems, Services and Resources, and (3) Immigration Issues Affecting Equitable Rights and Participation
  • Develop a strong working relationship between ActionDignity, ethno-cultural community organizations/groups/individuals, and Alberta nonprofits
  • Supervise, train and mentor Community Brokers to engage ethnocultural community members/leaders and to support community actions that support inclusion and equity
  • Help build capacity of ethnocultural organizations and communities to exercise their voice and leadership in diversity, inclusion and equity
  • Engage stakeholders to develop resources and curricula related to ethnocultural lens, diversity advantage for Alberta nonprofits, and strategies for greater inclusion and equity
  • Work with the non-profit sector to develop and implement a diversity and equity lens through collaboration with ethnocultural groups; support collaborative action plans related to key themes and issues
  • Work with the Policy Researcher/Educator to develop a systematic approach in collecting stories, data and information to offer an ethnocultural lens to Alberta nonprofits
  • Work in collaboration with a Program Developmental Evaluator to validate strategies and learning curricula/tools for ethno-cultural community members/leaders and Alberta nonprofits
  • Measure and document program outputs and outcomes
  • Write proposals and reports to funders
  • Develop program documents, toolkits and brochures for promotion and program development
  • Present a positive and professional image to all individuals
  • Participate as staff of Action Dignity and perform other duties as required



  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the Humanities/Social Sciences, Social Work, or a relevant discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years’ work experience as Program Coordinator or in project management
  • Knowledge and experience in community development approaches and strategies, community engagement, especially with ethno-cultural community groups/associations
  • Strong knowledge and experience in systemic and institutional discrimination, equitable access to systems, services and resources and immigration issues
  • Experience in adult education and curriculum development 
  • Experience in event planning
  • Comfortable using social media, photo shop and adobe; ability to design documents, brochures and simple advertising materials 
  • Relationship-oriented and results driven
  • Trustworthy, reliable and strong adherence to privacy legislation 
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) 
  • Proven organizational and strong time management skills; attention to detail
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Excellent team player and works well independently; resourceful and flexible



  • Clean driver’s license
  • An understanding of and an interest in the issues affecting ethno-cultural communities and diverse groups
