Parent Advocate

Parent Advocate 

Parent-Child Assistance Program (P-CAP) TERM position until June 30th, 2020 McMan Calgary


We are currently seeking someone who has a passion for working with women and their children. The Parent Advocate will provide in-home visits and community support to mothers who have used alcohol and/or drugs during their pregnancy. This position will provide support in the home addressing issues such as basic needs, parenting, struggles with addictions, etc. The Parent Advocate will also transport and support the woman and her children to important appointments in the community such as court, probation appointments, child welfare meetings, doctors, etc. The program functions with the following theoretical models- Relational Theory, Harm Reduction and Stages of Change. Some evening and weekend work may be required.


The successful candidate:

  • A degree or diploma in Human Services
  • Two years’ experience working with high-risk populations in addictions is preferred
  • Current standard First Aid Certification and Suicide Intervention Training
  • Valid Driver’s license and adequate insurance coverage.
  • The successful candidate must also have a Child Welfare Intervention Check and Police Check (current within 6 months).
  • Knowledge and experience with the Relational theory, harm reduction and stages of change an asset.
  • Strong counselling, communication skills

Salary Range:    $45,545 -$50,270
