Who we are:

The College of Midwives of Alberta (CMA)  is the governing and regulatory body that oversees the registration and practice of midwifery throughout the province of Alberta.  The College of Midwives of Alberta ensures public safety by regulating the practice of midwifery in accordance with the Health Professions Act and Midwives Profession Regulations. The College upholds the minimum standard of practice and competencies expected of all midwives registered to practice in Alberta.  Midwifery is a small but growing profession in Alberta.  The CMA is comprised of a volunteer council of directors, committees and a small office staff.


The CMA is looking for versatile people (2 or 3) to support the Council and the Registrar in the office on a part time basis. There are a number of portfolios which can be combined to create the right jobs for the right people.  Familiarity with Midwifery services is preferred.  General information on each portfolio is provided below.  Please contact the CMA office or visit our website to see the full job descriptions.  Salary will be based on experience.

1) Deputy Registrar :  0.4FTE ($20-25K/yr):  To start by  November 1

  • Responsible to the Registrar for all aspects of the registration process
  • Works closely with the Registration Committee. 
  • Maintains the registers of Midwives, ensures current certifications, manages practice permit renewals, and oversees the application process for new midwives.   
  • Must be highly comfortable with computer technology and able to learn new systems including web based programs.
  • Will be expected to combine with one other portfolio

2) Communications Coordinator: 0.4FTE ($20-$25K/yr): to start by Nov 1

  • Responsible to the Registar for the communications on behalf of the CMA.   
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the CMA website, email, telephone and other forms of communication. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of computers, and able to work with a variety of internet operating systems and related programs and software.
  • Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Will be expected to combine with one other portfolio

3) Office Assistant: 0.3FTE ($15-18K/yr)  to start Jan. 2020

  • Responsible to the Registrar
  • Receptionist during open office hours
  • Received and manages mail
  • Supports with  record keeping and filing
  • Assists with statistical information collection
  • Attends council and committee meetings as requested
  • Ordering supplies and equipment for office and council
  • Will be combined with another portfolio

4) Hearing Director: 0.3FTE ($15-$18K/yr)  to start  Jan. 2020

  • Responsible to the Registrar and Complaints Director
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the hearing process as outlined in the Health Professions Act
  • Maintain records of hearing files, process and costs
  • This role is sporadic in nature and on an as needed basis / will be combined with another portfolio

5) Bookkeeper / Accounts Manager: 0.2FTE ($6-8K/yr) to start Jan 2020

  • Responsible to Executive Director and Treasurer of Council
  • Responsible for accounts payable / accounts receivable
  • Payroll
  • Reconciliation of Bank records
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports
  • Supporting budget and financial planning for the council
  • Preparation and coordination of the annual audit
  • May be combined with another portfolio
