Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Hull Services is currently looking for a permanent, full-time Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (NP). The schedule for this position is typically12:00pm. – 8:00p.m. including alternating work on weekends.

The salary for this position ranges from $120,000 - $140,000

Reporting to the Nursing Coordinator, the Nurse Practitioner’s primary responsibility is to facilitate safe medical procedures and decisions within Therapeutic Campus-Based Care programs at Hull Services. In collaboration with the Nursing Coordinator, the NP administers direct nursing care and assessments of children and youth and provides guidance regarding medical issues to program staff. The NP delivers health related education to staff, including personal health guidance and information for employees as it relates to their work and general work related health. The NP also provides mentorship to staff RNs and relief RNs. The role involves administrative support related to the above responsibilities, as well as vacation and sick coverage for the Nursing Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Children and Youth:

  • Conduct health assessments, diagnose conditions, initiate and manage treatment
  • Order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests
  • Perform procedures, interventions and treatments
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other therapies
  • Provide first aid/nursing care and recommendations for medical intervention 
  • Offer treatment and advice regarding immediate health condition
  • Provide health education
  • Access electronic health records appropriately for best care of children and youth
  • Consult with Agency Family Physician as required
  • Liaise with: 
    • Parents/guardians regarding health concerns as required
    • Physicians, other nursing professionals and other medical facilities as required and/or requested by staff
    • Public health nurse assigned to the Agency to ensure immunizations are kept up-to-date
  • Support on-site medical/psychiatric clinic: set-up scheduling, physician notifications and perform case management duties
  • Provide annual flu vaccinations for those unable to attend clinics
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta STI treatment and reporting

Front-line Program Staff:

  • Provide first aid as required
  • Review Employee/Volunteer Injury Reports to ensure appropriate response including blood-borne pathogen exposure procedures
  • Educate employees regarding Universal Precautions, Medication Administration, Naloxone Use and other health courses as required
  • Provide: 
    • Hepatitis B vaccinations (involves obtaining vaccine and providing safe vaccination as required) 
    • Annual flu vaccinations (involves ordering vaccine, liaising with public health, educating staff, and administering vaccine
  • Ensure use of safety procedures (ensure availability and use of personal protective equipment)
  • Educate staff regarding current and new medical procedures and policies according to Agency standards; provide general medical information as requested for various conditions and treatments, and general medical information as requested for staff personal use


  • Order nursing supplies and medical supplies for programs
  • Review and revise health policies in collaboration with Nursing Coordinator, Quality Assurance Director and the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ensure: 
    • First aid kits are maintained and placed in all areas designated by Occupational Health and Safety (vehicles, programs and other buildings)
    • Agency AEDs are maintained and operational
    • Jack Fair Clinic equipment and files are maintained


  • Registered Nurse with current AARN registration
  • Current NP registration with CARNA
  • BLS Certification
  • Triplicate prescribing authority
  • Experience in Therapeutic Campus-Based Care programs (preferred)
  • Trauma Informed Care experience (preferred)
  • Addictions experience (preferred)
  • Clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Intervention Record Check
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest, commitment, consistent, and a high level of personal maturity and responsibility
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children/youth and staff
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Pediatric experience and background (preferred)
