Multicultural School Support Worker

Catholic Family Service is seeking a qualified candidate to provide family/school support services in our Multicultural School Support Program, a partnership with the Calgary Catholic School District.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong willingness and desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment that provides ongoing support to immigrant and refugee families in a variety of school settings. The successful applicant will support students and families to increase their capacity to transition to the Canadian school environment, address issues that may impact their success and act as a system navigator with community resources for the family. Opportunities to provide psycho-educational group activities are an asset. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will assist in bridging the important relationship between home and school. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will work and build capacity with a number of administrators, teachers, counsellors and other agencies.

Qualifications Required:

The Multicultural School Support Worker possesses professional proficiency in English and at least one other language, preferably Spanish. Please indicate languages spoken in cover letter and/or resume.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline;
  • Eligible and in good standing with professional governing body, as applicable;
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of family support experience, preferably with immigrant and refugee populations;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage families and their natural supports;
  • Experience working with community resources and agencies;
  • Understanding of cross-cultural parenting challenges and ability to coach parents on parenting skills such as behavioural management, attachment, child development, and communication;
  • Strong team work skills and willingness to learn, alongside a growth mindset;  Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Highly organized with strong administrative and time management skills;
  • A valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and access to daily use of a vehicle for work purposes.
