Mental Health Therapist / Clinical Supervisor (16-24 hours per week, negotiable)

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Calgary and Southern Alberta. With over 35 years of solid community experience, 70 active programs, and comprehensive wraparound support, CCIS ensures that our services respond to the needs of ethnically diverse communities within Calgary and area.

Our Centre for Refugee Resilience (CRR) provides culturally responsive therapeutic support to refugee and immigrant children, youth and their families in order to resolve and address trauma-related (PTSD) issues.

 

We are looking for a Mental Health Therapist / Clinical Supervisor in our CRR to work 16-24 hours per week (negotiable).

The Mental Health Therapist / Clinical Supervisor role offers an exciting leadership opportunity to guide the growth of the Centre for Refugee Resilience during a key time in its development. The therapy component offers an opportunity to work with a unique and rewarding population while providing leadership to a small clinical team. The program’s focus is on building resilience with refugees and immigrants who have experienced trauma, through coordinated community, social, and mental health support.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

●     Provide leadership and consultation to the therapy program within the Centre for Refugee Resilience

●     Update the team on emergent best practices

●     Lead case and clinical consultations with therapy team members

●     Support the therapeutic development of the team that aligns with personal, professional and organizational values

●     Provide culturally competent counselling to adult clients using trauma-informed and evidence-based treatment specific to client needs

●     In collaboration with case coordinators, support screening and counselling intakes

●     Provide continuous assessment and treatment planning for adult counselling clients who have experienced trauma

●     Schedule client appointments and provide reminders

●     Maintain documentation, evaluations and client records in accordance to agency policy and governing body as applicable

●     Provide consultative services to address changing needs of clients

●     Participate in case conferences as needed

●     Facilitate group interventions as needed

●     Provide statistical and narrative information on the therapy program for clinical evaluation, funding applications, reports, and research

●     In collaboration with the Team Lead, strategize, plan, and offer consultation on funding proposals toward the growth and sustainability of the therapy program

●     Work collaboratively with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team within CCIS

●     Work in accordance with Code of Ethics of applicable governing body

●     Participate in public education and promotion of the program, including development and presentation of workshops for community and volunteers, as time allows

 

Qualifications:

●     Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or other related field

●     Registered with the appropriate professional association

●     4+ years clinical experience, 1+ years supervisory experience

●     Experience in treating trauma and other issues prevalent to the refugee population (depression, anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD)

●     Specialization and training in culturally competent trauma-informed practices which could include: EMDR, Expressive Arts, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, etc.  

●     Demonstrated experience providing culturally competent clinical services among ethnically diverse population

●     Group experience is an asset

●     Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings to accommodate clients

●     Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

●     Ability to communicate in other languages considered an asset
