Responsibility

The role contributes to Momentum’s strategic direction related to enhancing organizational community engagement.  Reporting to the Director of Resource Development, the position oversees the organization’s projects and activities related to communications and marketing, and community engagement with key stakeholders, such as organizational partners, past participants and volunteers. This position is the organizational lead on stewarding Momentum’s community reputation and public profile.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Oversee the organization’s brand stewardship and effectively grow the community’s awareness of and engagement in poverty reduction and community economic development and Momentum’s contributions to socio-economic change
  • Provide organizational program leadership to communications, program marketing, volunteer management, community-building event delivery
  • Supervise team members and lead cross-organizational ad-hoc working groups
  • Lead efforts to enhance community partnerships by engaging with diverse communities and collaborative change efforts to expand the reach of our work

  • Supervisor: Director of Resource Development
  • Supervise: Communications, Marketing and Community Engagement Coordinators
  • Volunteers: Program volunteers and Participant Ambassadors

 Accountabilities:

  • The organization increases its community profile through communications and marketing efforts.
  • Momentum’s brand and community reputation is effectively stewarded
  • Enhanced community partnerships contribute to advancing Momentum’s mission.
  • Staff reporting to the role succeed in meeting their goals.
  • Projects, programs and initiatives assigned to the role meet all expected results.

Major Responsibilities:

 Program oversight and organizational leadership

  • Lead organizational communications and marketing functions to add value for Momentum staff and Board
  • Contribute to the Strategic Map, Business Plan and operational reporting, such as funder and donor reporting
  • Support the planning of community and internal events and meetings as required
  • Ensure volunteer management practices are effective and add value to Momentum and for volunteers
  • Ensure synergy between different work areas and an excellent level of internal service to other departments

Community Profile and Brand Stewardship

  • Ensure consistency and high-quality communication materials aligned with brand standards
  • Lead communications strategy to guide Momentum’s communications and marketing activities
  • Momentum’s brands are leveraged to create more conversation about social issues related to poverty and community economic development
  • Ensure organizational community events support our brand reputation
  • Coordinate Momentum’s social media strategy and use so that teams can utilize social media appropriately
  • Support engagement with traditional media Ensure the Annual report is produced and distributed for maximum impact

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Advance Momentum’s strategy to Engage the Community by cultivating community partnerships and deepening participant collaboration
  • Lead effort to develop relationships with communities, associations and groups to stay connected to and focused on the changing diversity of the community.
  • Supervise a staff role focused on community, volunteer and past-participant engagement
  • Ensure interdepartmental activities to raise awareness of Momentum in the community and increase enrolment in programs is coordinated
  • Improve Momentum’s effectiveness at managing our network of relationships with other organizations
  • Lead reporting on Momentum’s community connections in the annual status report
  • Represent Momentum at community events and activities as required
  • Support Momentum’s efforts to enhance engagement with Indigenous communities
  • Support Momentum’s efforts to deepen participant collaboration to meaningfully shape our programs, community leadership initiatives, and understanding of their lived experience of poverty.

Staff Leadership and Supervision

  • Communicate with staff a clear organizational direction based on Momentum’s values, culture, Strategic Map and Business Plan
  • Ensure staff have clear goals
  • Support staff in the achievement of program outputs and outcomes, and in their professional and personal goals
  • Administer Momentum policies and procedures consistently
  • Inspire staff to set and achieve goals and work collaboratively through the performance engagement process
  • Facilitate communication, cooperation and encourage synergies between departments and individuals
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance engagement in a timely manner

 Qualifications:

  • Proven management skills (5 years experience), including demonstrated ability to manage, change and lead a strong lead productive team.
  • Post secondary education or post degree training in the field of social sciences, business administration, marketing, or human services enhanced with career development training.  Knowledge of Community Economic Development is an asset.
  • Outstanding ability to work flexibly and responsively according to organisation’s needs
  • Experience in communications, marketing and adult learning
  • Experience in fund development, managing donor relationships and corporate donations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills: ability to manage multiple priorities in an outcomes-based environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to balance independent and teamwork.
  • Program and project planning, development and management experience.
  • Experience in working with marginalized or barriered individuals, including multicultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • Good knowledge of office administration, including a high level of computer competency with word processing, database and online systems.
  • Ability to manage and interpret budgets.
