Manager, IT Solutions (Full Time)

United Way of Calgary and Area is the largest non-government source of funding for human care and community support programs in the Calgary region. United Way works with its community partners to build sustainable solutions for the future, while providing services today to improve lives of people when they need it most.

 

United Way of Calgary and Area is looking for a full-time, Manager, IT Solutions to join the Corporate Services department. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Manager, IT Solutions role is designed to partner with teams across the organization to proactively and throughout the solutions’ lifecycle, ensure teams have operationally efficient and effective IT solutions. As a strategic IT business partner and managing the full solution lifecycle, this role will also manage or oversee the delivery of IT projects to support organizational IT needs. This is a key role in our ability to deliver IT solutions and develop organizational capacity.

Responsibilities  

Manage IT Projects and Delivery Solutions:

  • Manage and oversee IT project planning including the production of comprehensive project plans and documentation to enable the project to be managed against a clear set of defined deliverables and milestones
  • Manage and oversee monitoring, measuring, reviewing and updating project process, adjusting project plans and implementing remedial plans and informing all relevant parties
  • Conduct evaluation of the project and any follow-up action recommendations as required
  • Produce project documentation and create knowledge libraries with the end goal of using this documentation to train and support end users
  • Provide leadership to those involved in the project by defining work and ensuring deadlines are understood and adhered to and that project objectives are clearly articulated and understood
  • Manage and chair IT Change Advisory Board (CAB) and Emergency Change Advisory Board (ECAB) meetings and the associated Change Manager duties
  • Oversee all organizational software applications based on the organization’s Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Actively manage software applications to drive operational efficiencies effectively; activities include commissioning, enhancement, and decommissioning of applications
  • Manage IT capital expenditure budget

 

People Leadership:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, support and direction to team members to be successful in their role
  • Provide clarity of direction, expectations and outcomes along with alignment of activities with priorities
  • Coaches and develops others and can hold others to account with a positive principled approach
  • Collaborates with IT Supervisor and Human Resources team in full cycle HR activities: recruitment, selection, retention, performance management, development, legislative compliance etc.

 

Regional IT Team Participation:

  • Acts inclusively and participates in both Calgary and our partner, initiatives 
  • Actively manages both Calgary and partner IT needs  
  • Fosters a one IT team approach to support regionalization initiatives 

 

Experience and Skills:  

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of business analysis, project management, computer science, or information systems or 10 years related work experience.
  • PMP, CBAP, and/or Scrum Master Certification would be an asset.
  • Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions.
  • Conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
  • Great communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to manage consultants and vendor relationships
  • Meets or demonstrates high potential in all organizational core competencies.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and facilitate collaboratively is required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship skills.
