Position Summary:

We are looking for a marketing and communications superstar. If you are driven to create social change through storytelling and are incredibly organized, this is the position for you! The Communications & Events team at Inn from the Cold is a dynamic group of passionate individuals who are eager to meet you.

The Manager, Communications supports Inn from the Cold's internal and external communication and marketing strategies and events. The Manager, Communications is responsible for promoting and protecting the company's reputation by executing media and public relations strategies and plans for brand building/innovation/corporate promotions. The Manager, Communications will be responsible for providing direction to the Coordinator, Communications, the Coordinator, Events, and Communications Intern.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and vision to the Communications & Events team including coaching and mentoring, continuous learning, professional development and performance management.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Communications & Events Department, with a focus on PR & marketing activities that leverage Inn from the Cold’s voice and position in community.
  • Write and develop all kind of written communication materials including fundraising materials, presentations, reports, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, annual report, website, social media channels and others.
  • Manage IFTC website and supervise ongoing maintenance.
  • Identify and develop strong relationships with key media partners to enhance the Inn’s public engagement across all media channels.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure messaging is congruent with best practices.
  • Oversee the creation of monthly internal and external e-newsletters. 


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related discipline.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Style Guide and marketing / communications best practices.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Communications and/or PR experience required.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication with strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Must possess strong project management skills.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion.
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with all levels of employees is critical.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Website and social media management tools.
  • Marketing for fundraising is considered an asset.
