Independent Living Skills (ILS) Cleaner


Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta is seeking a Independent Living Skills (ILS) Cleaner to work at our independent living facilities.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the ILS Worker, the ILS Cleaner works as part of a team that works with individuals who face housing challenges, many of whom have hoarding and general living skills difficulties.

TPFA believes seniors deserve access to affordable housing that is clean, safe and secure and supports their independence. These supports may include helping residents get the financial aid they’re entitled to, providing grief support or linking them with community resources. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with housekeeping, such as window cleaning, carpet cleaning, scrubbing floors and bathtubs, wall washing, laundry assistance, bed changing, etc.
  • Assist residents as required with preparation for insect spraying (bed bugs, cockroaches)
  • Work together with ILS team to solve more difficult tenant issues such as hoarding
  • Assistance with furniture removal from suite, cleaning up client’s suite after move outs etc.
  • Assist with cleaning of common areas when not working with residents
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Minimum of a High school Diploma
  • Valid WHMIS Certificate
  • Valid First Aid Certificate


  • Two to three years cleaner experience
  • Experience working or volunteering with seniors or individuals affected by diminished capacity, hoarding or other difficult living environments an asset
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding, patience and sensitivity when relating to clients and families
  • Highly developed inter-personal and communication skills
  • Emotional intelligence skills including self-awareness, optimism, adaptability, resilience and empathy
  • Must complete a Calgary Police Service Vulnerable Sector Search

Working Conditions

  • May be required to enter suites that are not well kept
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids and fecal matter
  • Lifting and carrying supplies, as required
