We currently have a full-time opportunity in our Administrative Office in SW Calgary. Reporting to the Manager of Quality Assurance and Compliance, this position coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Health, Safety, Emergency Response and Wellness programs at Silvera, to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace.

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Makes recommendations to ensure that each site is operating and maintaining their Health and Safety program to an optimum level.
  • Reviews all incident reports, coordinating statistical reporting, and helps supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions; as well as studies possible causes and recommend remedial action.
  • Promotes occupational health and safety leadership within the organization and develops safer and healthier ways of working.
  • Identifies topics and conducts training sessions for management, supervisors, and workers on health and safety practices and legislation.
  • Responsible for the coordination of internal and external Health and Safety audits, provides consultation and assists in risk assessment and hazard analysis.
  • Facilitates the implementation and administration of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System, procedures, manuals and training.
  • Works in partnership with directors, managers, supervisors, and employees to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents, and injuries and evaluate the success of health and safety training programs.

 Desired qualifications:

  • University degree, preferably in a related area and a minimum of 5 years’ experience championing a health and safety program.
  • 3 years minimum experience managing WCB claims.
  • Familiarity, demonstrated experience, and knowledge working with health and safety programs and legislation including WHMIS is required. Safety-related courses and qualifications a definite asset.
  • Good interpersonal skills, communication, presentation, and management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and data entry/database input is essential
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • The ability to work independently in an unsupervised capacity.
