 Two Wheel View (TWV) provides life-changing experiences for young people. TWV is a mission driven organization that provides youth development programs that use the bicycle as a tool to build resiliency. TWV creates opportunities for young people to learn and practice lessons in leadership, health and wellness, self-esteem, achievement, and community connection through their participation in bicycle education programs and trips.

 

Position OverviewThe Communications and Development Coordinator works with and reports to the Executive Director. This position will play an integral role in the growth and development of one of Calgary’s fastest growing not-for-profit organizations. The Communications and Development Coordinator will have the opportunity to tell the story of Two Wheel View to the community, stakeholders and existing and new donors. Community building will be a big part of this role and the incumbent will be responsible for engaging new audiences and securing financial support from new donors to the organization. The successful candidate needs to love people and making a difference in the community through their work.

Job Details

Location: Calgary, Alberta (various locations)

Position type:.8 FTE /32 hours a week

Work-hours: varied; evenings and some weekend work as required;

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Communications(40%):

  • Work in consultation with the Executive Director to develop, implement and evaluate internal and external communications plans
  • Lead the generation of content for social media, websites, blogs, newsletters, press releases and other distribution channels
  • Coordinate website administration and manage social media platforms
  • Support external communications with media, community partners, stakeholder groups and donors
  • Work with designers and printers to develop a swag line that supports the TWV brand
  • Evaluate marketing and communications strategies
  • Create and attend community building events that help promote the TWV brand and values

  

Fund Development (60%):  

  • Build and foster relationships with existing and potential donors
  • Support the achievement of operational fundraising goals
  • Produce compelling communication tools for use in development, including cases for support, gift proposals, presentations and collateral materials. 
  • Identify and research prospective donors to the organization
  • Qualify and cultivate prospective donors to the organization
  • Solicit and close major gifts in the range of $10,000+  
  • Write major gift proposals and grant proposals
  • Plan and execute strategic special events to expand awareness of the organization in the community, engage new audiences and advance fund development goals 
  • Support, attend and build tools for third-party events
  • Deliver on the TWV Donor Stewardship plan
  • Support the development of the Two Wheel View social enterprise

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree preferably in communication or related discipline
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills
  • 3 years of experience in a role requiring externally facing communications
  • 3-5 years of experience working in fund development with an understanding of moves management, pipeline development, solicitation strategies, donor relations, and stewardship
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Comfortable working with a wide variety of community stakeholders
  • Committed to supporting and enhancing organizational culture and values
  • Ability to stay focused and work independently in a fast moving and diverse work environment
