Position Summary:

This is an approx. 1 year maternity leave coverage contract, working full time hours (37.5 Hrs/ Week).

The Family Development Coach will conduct home visitation based on the Nurturing Parenting Program curriculum. The Family Development Coach’s main accountabilities will include developing and executing action plans and goals through strengthening families/nurturing parenting, facilitate group sessions and in-home visits to promote optimal sustainability and improve family support system. This position works collaboratively with CUPS Family Development Centre, Child Development Centre and other CUPS services.

Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Ability to provide CUPS clients with guidance in both crisis and non-crisis situations
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility through effective services utilizing assessment tools (Outcomes Star, Assessing Parenting, Ages and Stages) and specific goal setting
  • Under the direction of the Manager – Family Development Centre, support a diverse population including Aboriginal, immigrant, children, and seniors.
  • Give support to participants through working with CUPS Care Coordinators to help connect participants with required services when they have been unsuccessful themselves
  • Liaise with relevant community programs and Children’s Services to ensure client success.
  • Able to conduct home visits based on CUPS Nurturing Parent program and increase family cohesion, improve parenting skills and promote positive parent-child interactions.
  • Assist in identifying children’s developmental concerns and provide appropriate referrals
  • Strengthen external community relationships that are relevant to CUPS programming.
  • Perform client assessment and surveys on CUPS programs
  • Enter assessments, contact and session notes into ETO database on a continuous basis and provide statistical information to the Manager – Family Development Centre.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and correspondence
  • Provide emotional support to families teaching home management, preventative health, nutrition, and life coping skills.
  • Maintain an environment that facilitates communication and provides support for a diverse population.
  • Provide an environment for children that is safe and stimulating
  • Facilitate organization of special events
  • Contribute to the process of creating an environment for clients that is supportive and culturally sensitive

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, Registered Social Worker, Previous Counseling or Case Management with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates support for the philosophy of participant involvement in program development
  • Knowledge of social services organizations and community supports that provide culturally sensitive supports to people
  • Ability to assess need and assist individuals to access resources, services and necessary supports
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Awareness and sensitivity towards cultural diversity
  • Awareness of health and social issues faced by low-income individuals
  • Team Player
  • Ability to assume initiative
  • Must have valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Current Police Clearance and Child Intervention Record check
