Executive Director (Maternity Leave – 15 month term)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an energetic, emerging leader to continue to help guide the transformational process that CFAN has embarked upon over the last two years as it became a registered charity. We are looking for a thought leader who is results oriented and values people.  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will ensure CFAN’s success by providing leadership, direction and focus to the organization’s activities and larger network.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the larger network, CFAN’s employees, volunteers and members of the Board in relation to the Agency’s mission and key success factors to ensure strategic goals and objectives are met in a timely manner
  • Responsible for implementing, revising and evaluating the strategic plan and objectives on a regular basis and providing updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Implements a risk management plan that is reviewed annually and identify opportunities to mitigate and minimize organizational risk.
  • Effectively work with Provincial partners to further the province’s FASD strategy.
  • Anticipates, examines and responds to strategic issues or situations.

Builds Community Networks

  • Communicates a compelling picture of the vision and strategy that motivates other to action.
  • Responsible for actively promoting CFAN’s mission and direction to the community and relevant stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates community leadership by participating in external advocacy, partnerships and collaborative initiatives that further the work of the sector and mandate of the agency.
  • Build effective relationship with existing and potential funders.
  • Actively engage community through agency network and service provider meetings to ensure client voice is captured and is actively informing the work of CFAN.

 Financial Acumen

  • Actively aware and responsible for the administrative, fundraising and financial initiatives of the agency and ensures compliance with all relevant legislation and standards.
  • Uses financial analysis to generate, evaluate and act on strategic options and opportunities.

 Plans and Aligns

  • Plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
  • Supports CFAN’s Granting Committee and holds funded agencies accountable to ensure positive outcomes are achieved to meet client needs.
  • Ensures all agency funder requirements are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Anticipates and adjusts effective contingency plans.
  • Takes on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders including funders, agencies and community members.
  • Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with stakeholders to meet shared objectives.

 Education and Experience Requirements

  • Proven skills in non-profit sector and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management leadership role.
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with funders and community.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitator skills with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
