Overview

Recovery Acres (Calgary) Society (“Recovery Acres”) provides mental health and addiction programs to adult men and women who suffer from mental health issues, alcoholism and drug addiction. The facility operates through two programs:

 

  • 1835 House – A 30 bed residential, fully accredited adult men’s treatment facility. 1835 House has served over 14,000 men through its 45 year history, and is well known in recovery circles for its quality programs.
  • CARE for Women – A nine space out-patient co-occurring mental health and addiction program for adult women.

All psychological testing at 1835 House and CARE for Women is supervised by Doctor John Streukens and his team at SAE Psychological.

Recovery Acres believes that alcoholism and drug addiction are incurable diseases, affecting the family and all aspects of our clients’ lives. We provide a holistic approach to treating the disease through programming that deals with the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Our objective is to provide the highest possible quality programs to enable our clients to achieve sobriety and to maintain productive and healthy lifestyles.

We’re looking for a highly skilled Executive Director to help us fulfill this important undertaking. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director will oversee the strategic direction and operational efficiency of our programs, lead our fundraising and business development objectives, and will be accountable for our financial position and results of operations. This leader will have proven experience developing and implementing fundraising plans. Prior experience managing and hiring staff is essential, and established relationships with government stakeholders, community groups and the local business community is a plus.

Objectives and Responsibilities of the Role

  • Work closely with the board of directors to develop and implement strategic plans and operating budgets, and review and compare results against these plans and budgets at regular intervals
  • Oversee daily operations, providing executive direction on key issues relating to quality assurance, program efficiency, staffing, and other matters arising from time to time
  • Develop and implement an aggressive fundraising plan that focuses on government and private sector funding sources
  • Carefully monitor, and report to the board of directors on, the financial position and results of operations
  • Develop, implement and oversee a marketing and social media platform that brings heightened awareness to our programs
  • Serve as the face of the organization and actively participate in external events, increasing our visibility, credibility and brand in the market, and developing strategic relationships with government agencies, private donors, local media and other stakeholders
  • Identify and implement staffing requirements for efficient operations, maintaining a strong culture and work climate that attracts and retains staff and drives our objectives
  • Ensure the organization complies with federal, provincial and local legislation and regulations and provides high-quality care to our clients

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of senior management experience in public relations, marketing or fundraising
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, business/finance or another complimentary discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership and management principles related to non-profit operations
  • Proven success working with a board of directors or similar governance body
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business planning and fundraising
  • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization
