Employability and Life skills Instructor - COMPASS Training Program (casual employment)

Responsibilities

The Employability Skills Instructor will deliver Momentum’s curriculum to Youth and young adult participants (with a minimum English language proficiency level of 5-6) on the COMPASS Training program.

About the COMPASS program:

The goal of the COMPASS program is to support vulnerable, low-income young adults who are not currently in training, education, or on a viable career path. These young adults are finding it difficult to navigate their way due to the level of their skills, competencies, and confidence. The program aims to help participants build their skills and knowledge, increase their confidence, and give them a jump start to a meaningful career, with technology as a foundational skill. COMPASS will provide young adults in Calgary with a supportive and interactive learning environment to build essential skills, applied skills, and academic competencies.  Students who go through the COMPASS program will be equipped with a strong foundation for further learning, and a realistic road map to pursue further education or training or employment.

The aim of the English language training component of the COMPASS program is to teach participants the essential English language skills required to successfully challenge English entrance exams and gain admission into a post-secondary institution.

Key responsibilities of the Employability and Life Skills instructor include:

  • planning, preparing and delivering lesson plans
  • preparing teaching materials
  • helping participants develop and improve their Employability and Life skills: soft skills and hard skills.
  • Monitor participant attendance and report all absences/irregularities to program staff
  • Communicate participant progress to program staff and collaborate on any additional support participants may require 
  • Attend planning and consultative meetings with department staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Education, Adult Education, or other Related Profession.
  • Experience delivering a comprehensive curriculum to youth / young adults learners using adult education principles.
  • Experience developing lesson plans to meet the needs of Youth and Young adults’ learners and prepare them with the skills they need to successfully navigate and thrive in post-secondary education and/or employment in the ICT field
  • Demonstrated ability working with NEET participants ( Not in Education, Employment or Training)
  • Experience with program evaluation, classroom management, individual educational support, and individual /group further learning support.
  • Preference for self-employed individuals with an incorporated business  

Hours

COMPASS is a 15-week program. The training schedule runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Thursday, with some flexibility required. The program schedule includes approximately 3 hours instruction a day.

This is a casual employment opportunity. It is not eligible for group benefits and does not have regular ongoing hours of work.
