Director of Operations

Connections is seeking a Director of Operations to help lead this dynamic non-profit organization. Connections supports parents who have a cognitive challenge. We’ve developed parenting skills education and family support that help adults who have a cognitive disability (including Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Autism, or brain injury) be successful parents. With over 125 families assisted each year, Connections has substantial impact in the community, providing parents and their families with the one-on-one support, skills training, advocacy, and group activities they need to succeed.

MISSION  Connections supports parents with cognitive challenges to maintain a safe and nurturing home for their children.

OPPORTUNITY  The Director of Operations will play a significant role in the responsibility of leading a charitable organization with a 30-year history in Calgary and area. We are looking for a senior manager to oversee day-to-day operations including Finance, HR, and Administrative processes. This 32 – 37.5 hours per week role is flexible, with potential to lead to the executive director position in years to come. It is therefore a great opportunity for someone to learn and grow with the organization. Under the direction of the Agency Director (our title for Executive Director or CEO), this new role will take over much of the management function and contribute to strategic direction, budgeting, contract reporting, and risk assessment/mitigation.

RESPONSIBILITIES  Reporting to the Agency Director, the Director of Operations provides leadership and direction for a small but committed staff base.

  • Ensure agency operations and systems support the staff to fulfill the vision, mission, and objectives and that all staff and systems work in alignment with the philosophy, standards, and culture of the organization.
  • Oversee all aspects of the agency’s operations: accounting, human resources and office management.
  • Ensure agency is working to capacity, anticipating demand and resource requirements, to realize agency potential and future direction.
  • Support contract relationships with reporting and accreditation and Agency Director and Board with management information systems and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three to five years’ management experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Exposure to financial and systems management, human resources, and stakeholder relations.
  • Post-secondary degree in business administration or social services supported by experience, or equivalent combination of experience and expertise.
  • Ability to make decisions considering impacts on individuals, agency, and systems and to see day-to-day operations in context of larger systems and future positioning.

Compensation will start between $65K - $75K per year and include health and wellness benefits.
