POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief External Relations Officer, this position is responsible to work with the Senior Leadership team to set and implement the strategic direction of the Agency. The Director of Fund Development will develop and activate effective and creative resource development donor relations approaches which ensure our teams, projects and capital initiatives are presented to and supported by Calgary’s philanthropic community. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and direction to a team of fundraising professionals, will grow relationships with key donors and will design and implement the systems and processes vital to enable our fundraising ambitions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and execution of a broad portfolio of fund development strategies and tactics which ensure the opportunity to invest in Boys & Girls Clubs of Calgary’s new strategic plan, continuum of services and emerging capital projects set is effectively positioned for donors;
  • Modernize and grow all aspects of BGCC’s fund development program through empowering leadership, inspiring coaching and effective management of a team of dedicated professionals;
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, CEO, Directors and fund development teams to create and implement fund development strategies which enable achievement of our mission in alignment with our values;
  • Build and implement systems and processes throughout the full donor cycle to ensure consistent and responsive donor experience;
  • Ability to work with program and finance teams to ensure a compelling case for support is effectively articulated and presented;
  • Accountability for fund development department budget including revenue forecasting;
  • Work closely with the CXO and Director of Communications & Stakeholder Relations to maintain line of sight to a web of concurrent fundraising, brand, marketing and communications and stakeholder relations activities to enhance and grow BGCC’s community of supporters;
  • Working understanding of Canada Revenue Agency policies and procedures and ethical fundraising approaches and guidelines;
  • Working knowledge of technology tools which support and enable fundraising including proficiency with Raiser’s Edge;
  • Steward a portfolio of key donor relationships and community partnerships towards signature and major gifts;
  • Negotiation with and management of vendors and contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma/certificate in Fund Development, related discipline or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum 5 years experience in fundraising, business development, sales or marketing;
  • Proven experience as a major gifts fundraiser and public speaker;
  • High degree of initiative, proficiency, and efficiency working with time sensitive and confidential information;
  • Exemplary skill in process design and written communication;
  • Possesses the skills to manage and motivate a diverse team by setting an encouraging and open; atmosphere by inviting their input, providing support, sharing ownership and allowing staff to develop through constructive, positive feedback;
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check; (if checks are not dated within the past 6 months, we will initiate them upon hire)
  • CFRE designation and AFP membership are considered an asset
