Development Assistant

Development Assistant - Full Time

The Development Assistant position will provide support to the development office in order to enhance the philanthropic activity of the Society’s annual operating as well as capital campaign. The position will enter and manage reports to understand and track philanthropic activity, pledges, and contributions. The Development Assistant will manage and update donor databases, respond to member queries and sometimes approach benefactors for appeals. The position will conduct research, analyze data and compile reports on current or prospective donors. The position will participate in and support fund raising activities and events. 

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support to Capital Campaign Director and the Capital Campaign and Fund Development Manager and the Operating Campaign, such as typing, filing, photocopying, preparation for meetings, and website maintenance.
  • Facilitates recognition of donors through letter recognition, provision of tax receipts, data entry, coding revenue received, managing on line donations and ensuring the mailing of donor letters and receipts.
  • Responding to questions by donors by phone and email.
  • Organizing, supervision and feedback of volunteers relevant to fund development activities.
  • Conducts prospect research on potential donors.
  • Assists and attends all special events, this will include working flexible hours including evenings, early mornings and weekends.

Skills or Other Qualifications


  • Must have intermediate skills in MS Office package, and intermediate skills using Raiser’s Edge (certificate preferred).
  • Requires sensitivity to the privacy and confidentiality of prospective and current donors.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; fluency in English and English grammar a must.
  • Able to take initiative and follow through on assigned responsibilities with minimal support.
  • Ability to be proactive, anticipate problems and/or issues, and address these in a timely manner.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and the use of a reliable personal vehicle with a willingness to travel. Five (5) years of supporting philanthropic activities.
  • Ability to type at 70-75 wpm.
  • Completion of an administrative or business program; diploma preferred.
