Role Summary


The Document Assistance Support Service (“DASS”) Project Coordinator will oversee the conduct of a needs assessment and environmental scan to gauge the nature, scope and extent of document assistance support required by self-represented litigants with civil (non-family) matters in Provincial Court and the Court of Queen’s Bench in Alberta. The DASS Project Coordinator will be responsible for engaging relevant stakeholders in the justice system in the needs assessment process and will possess significant experience and/or strong interest in access to justice and survey coordination/management.


Location: Calgary, with frequent travel to Edmonton.


Hours: Part-Time, Fixed-Term


Start Date: Immediate


Organizational Reporting


The DASS Project Coordinator will work closely with and report to the Executive Director (ED).


The DASS Project Coordinator will be supported and assisted by PBLA’s Court-Based Program Coordinators, where necessary, to achieve the following deliverables:


  • coordinate ad manage relationships with various survey and justice stakeholders/vendors to ensure planning and smooth implementation of all surveys;
  • develop and review the needs assessment process, implementation and monitoring plan;
  • design tools for needs assessment, including survey questionnaires and focus group exercises;
  • monitor the progress of the needs assessment project, including preparatory and ongoing survey related activities, with survey stakeholders;
  • track project deliverables and follow-up with survey stakeholders;
  • maintain data bases of survey data sets as required;
  • collate, compile and analyze data and feedback from survey stakeholders;
  • provide regular survey updates on needs assessment project and prepare interim and final reports;


Education and Skills Required

  • A post-secondary degree in Law, Justice-related studies and/or related experience;
  • Strong knowledge of court forms, processes and systems;
    • Direct experience in designing, implementing, and/or analysing surveys and coordinating implementation of surveys and focus groups.
    • A background in justice or social services, and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of social justice;
    • Strong relationship building skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and manage multicultural groups with various levels of training and understanding;
    • Strong project management skills;
    • High energy, maturity, and leadership skills;
    • Excellent judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills;
    • Self-starter, ability to work independently and in team settings;
    • Superior writing and editing skills, with excellent attention to detail;
    • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills;
    • Intermediate to high proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and/or other data processing software; and
    • Experience working for a not-for-profit agency and/or a law-related organization is a definite asset.
