Cultural Broker – Full Time (40 hours), One Year Contract

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta. Since our inception in 1981, we have been a community leader with solid experience in the design and delivery of comprehensive services for our newest neighbours. We deliver these services through a dynamic multi-cultural, multi-denominational and multi-disciplinary team of professionals, who collectively speak over 60 languages. 

CCIS, in partnership with Calgary and Area Children’s Services (CS), is currently implementing a Cultural Brokerage Program with the overall objectives to increase collaboration, engagement, and partnership with culturally diverse communities in Calgary, and to strengthen community capacity within Calgary’s multicultural communities. To achieve this, CCIS is recruiting for a Cultural Broker. This position reports to the Program Coordinator of the Cultural Brokerage Program.

The CCIS Cultural Brokerage Program (CCBP) is comprised of a team of diverse individuals made up of Cultural Brokers and a Diversity Coordinator. The cultural brokerage team will be located in CS multi-service team locations across the City that have been identified as serving specific ethno-cultural populations. With the intention of providing holistic services to vulnerable children and families new to Canada, the CCBP will work very closely with other CCIS programs and services to ensure early intervention, individualized case support, and long term follow up.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

●   Engage in collaborative service delivery to families in need as identified by Children’s Services (CS)

●   Provide cultural interpretation

●   Educate families on system expectations in Canada

●   Support CFS staff in delivering culturally relevant services

●   Case management including individualized case support and long term follow up

●   Home visitation as required

●   Connect families with relevant community support services for early intervention and prevention

●   Collaborate with CCIS Parent Link team for effective service delivery

●   Administrative responsibilities associated with case management, documentation and maintenance

●   Actively participate in the evaluation of the program

●   Contribute to the creation of an inclusive work environment through effective communication and positive relationships

●   Establish and maintain effective working relationships with complimentary community based services

●   Participate in relevant training and education as determined by senior staff

   

Qualifications:

●   BSW degree or a combination of relevant experience and education

●   Understanding and appreciation of the service needs of various community and ethno-cultural groups

●   Competence in the application of the counseling process

●   Experience and ability to collaborate effectively with the community

●   Working knowledge of the settlement and integration process

●   Excellent interpersonal skills and self-starting tendencies

●   Knowledge and understanding of social work practices in a Canadian context

●   Advanced technological skills

●   Preference will be given to individuals connected to Filipino ethno-cultural communities and groups

●   Preference will be given to candidates fluent in both English and another language representative of the target groups being served. For this opportunity, candidates must be fluent in Tagalog.

●   As travel is required, a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required
