Community Respite Program and Family Support - Supervisor

The Children's Cottage Society of Calgary provides crisis nursery, respite, shelter and community support programs for vulnerable children and their families. To achieve our vision of “Safe Children in Healthy Families”, we are looking for a strong leader to join our organization as a Supervisor with the Family Coaching & Healthy Families Program.

This position exists in order to ensure that quality services in the areas of the In Home Infant Respite Program, Family Support (Crisis Nursery) and Volunteer Daycare services are maintained.  The position exists to further develop these areas to their full potential.  In addition, this position exists to facilitate collaboration between the existing programs of the Society, the existing partnerships of the Community Respite Program, Crisis Nursery Family Support and related community initiatives.

The working hours for this position is based on a 40 hour work week, Monday to Friday 9:30am – 5:30 pm.

EDUCATION:  Degree in a Human Services field, or a combination of a diploma and experience.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct service work with parents and infants and preschool children.
  • Experience in program management
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Practice
  • Understanding of current research on Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Strong knowledge of the developmental requirements of young children and tools to support
  • Knowledge of community resources in Calgary and surrounding areas
  • Experience in community based programming
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience working in outcomes driven programming
  • Ability to plan program directions with strategic thinking principles
  • Knowledge of Children’s Services (CS) processes
  • RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the ongoing development of the In-Home Infant Respite Program and Family Support (CN) and Volunteer Daycare services.
  • Responsible for the work performance of his/her assigned workers through the provision of regular supervision and development of both professional development and performance improvement plans as appropriate.
  • Adhere to, respect, and promote the vision, mission, values and beliefs of the Society.
  • Responsible for the quality implementation of community respite services.
  • Reports to Crisis Nursery Manager to ensure proper procedures are followed to enable clients to utilize the programs.
  • Collaborates with Crisis Nursery Team Leads and Supervisor of Family Coaches to ensure quality of services at the Crisis Nursery.
  • Ensures that all documentation on client records meets accreditation standards.
  • Communicates regularly with direct reports, and volunteers.
  • Assists Manager with the ongoing analysis and evaluation of the Respite and Crisis Nursery Services and support the implementation of quality improvement strategies.
  • Engages in weekly review of client data entry into ETO.
  • Assists in preparing reports as per funding requirements and reviews with Manager, prior to submission.
  • Responsible for being the primary contact person with all collaborating partners in this program area.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, training and quality assurance in relation to respite workers, respite volunteers and Family Support workers.
  • Responsible for the recognition of all volunteers involved in this program.
  • Maintains fiscal awareness of the program at all times.
  • Provides input to develop the program’s annual budget.
  • Adheres to, respects and promotes the philosophy of the Society through all work related activity.
  • Networks and participates on related program committees.
  • Works collaboratively with the staff of the Society.
  • Speaks publicly when called upon.
  • Performs other functions that may arise as needed and as assigned by the Manager.
  • Support the work of the respite programs with the integration of the most current research and best practices regarding important concepts such as the core story, attachment theory and trauma informed practice
