Community Programs Manager

Position Description:

Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association is a vibrant, inclusive community centre offering community-based programming, childcare, sports and recreation facilities, and private hall rentals for business functions and special events.

 

The Community Programs Manager oversees several programs that are run primarily by four full-time program coordinators. These programs include a year-round farmers’ market, community gardens, community potlucks, weekly drop-in programs, seniors programs and more. The Community Programs Manager provides coaching and leadership to a small team of experienced program coordinators to ensure that these programs continue to run successfully, are financially sustainable and are being evaluated and reported on appropriately.

 

In addition, the Community Programs Manager provides administrative support, including human resource functions, to the Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Provide coaching and support with decision making, problem solving and daily work flow to direct reports (3 FT program coordinators)
    • Provide honest, open, timely and accurate communications at all times to promote transparent leadership
    • Support program coordinators in cross-departmental collaboration
    • Conduct performance reviews of direct reports and related monitoring and support
    • Provide programmatic support to direct reports, as needed
  • Financial
    • Grants management: FCSS
      • Create and submit funding applications
      • Maintain sufficient records to meet all reporting requirements
      • Monitor implementation of grant funds, including budgeting
      • Funder relations
    • Annual budgeting, in collaboration with Controller: Community Connections, Farmers’ Market, Fresh Food Basket,
    • Expenditure approvals for direct reports
  • Evaluation
    • Develop and follow an evaluation strategy
    • Develop program surveys, logic models
    • Ensure reporting requirements are met across programs
  • Communications
    • Support program coordinators/managers in developing communications strategies for their programs
    • Compile community programs content for voice, e-news, annual report, blog, etc.
  • Engagement
    • Seek out partnerships that support program objectives
    • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders
  • Human Resources
    • Support the Executive Director to maintain HSCA’s Policy and Procedures manual
    • Support Executive Director and other Managers in full-time employee recruitment and selection, including posting vacant positions, evaluating candidates and supporting respective departments with interviews
    • Onboarding new full-time employees, including HR paperwork and IT set-up
    • Create and maintain full-time job descriptions, as needed
  • Other
    • Additional assignments as directed by the Executive Director

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Degree in a related field of study
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience, ideally in a community-based setting
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing program evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience managing program budgets of $200,000 or more
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering welcoming and inclusive spaces as a foundation for community building
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities in a community-based setting
  • Experience with direct program delivery, an asset
  • Experience with Family Community Support Services, an asset
  • Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required as conditions of employment
