Community Development Facilitator, Multigenerational Wellness in Community (HR309)
Regular Full Time (1.0 FTE, 37.5 hours per week) $48,610 – $57,068 per annum

Position Summary
As a member of the Elder Friendly Communities Team, you will be an integral part of increasing social connections for older adults. Using asset based community development, this position will develop a spectrum of strategic opportunities that connect older adults with each other as well as with people across the lifespan.  This requires engaging older adults in activities that foster and nurture participants’ strengths, and increases resiliency around social participation, social inclusion and personal capacity.  This position will nurture a collaborative, inclusive and community focused environment amongst residents in Calgary communities.    

This position will play a key role in implementing community development activities directly with residents and requires collaboration with community stakeholders and other service providers to work towards carya’s vision for Elder Friendly Communities.  

This position reports to the Supervisor, Community Development.


  • Engage in strong and effective working relationships with participants, community partners, and colleagues
  • Build, support, and facilitate the development of group programs that meet the needs of the community, promote social inclusion and support participants to thrive
  • Work with participants to determine direction of engagement and identify emerging community needs that may be addressed through Community Development opportunities 
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with the community, participants and internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify and create possibilities for community engagement and attend relevant community meetings and networks
  • Engage individuals from vulnerable populations to build upon their strengths and foster personal and community capacity
  • Represent carya and its brand in the larger sector and champion agency mission and values
  • Collect data according to reporting and evaluation requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Two years proven track record in front-line community development work
  • Bachelor’s degree in community development or social work or education that provides a similar level of training
  • Effective facilitation, group management, coordination and community organizing experience
    • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member, and independently in the community
    • Experience, excitement and a passion for working across the life span from an asset-based, participant-centered perspective with a mutigenerational lens which includes youth and older adults 
    • Strong organizational abilities and experience balancing multiple demands
    • Superior written and oral communication skills with attention to detail
      • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in time, place of work and engagement strategies
      • Innovative and client-centered in approach with high ethical standards and integrity
      • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to engage stakeholders of diverse and at times competing interests to works towards achieving a common agenda

Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check, Child Intervention Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required prior to working with participants.
