Communications Assistant

CCVO (Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations) is a member-based organization that works to strengthen the nonprofit sector in Calgary and beyond. CCVO operates as a backbone organization for the nonprofit sector through providing practical supports, meaningful information, advocating for, and connecting sector organizations and its stakeholders.

The Communications Assistant plays an integral communication and coordination role at CCVO to facilitate the interaction and information exchange within and among the nonprofit sector and other key stakeholders. This position will appeal to an energetic, highly organized, and motivated young professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is looking for the opportunity to develop their skills through a wide-range of projects. The Communications Assistant works closely with colleagues, CCVO members, and suppliers. In this role, you should be an excellent communicator with strong attention to detail.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create content and engage CCVO members on social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter).
  • Complete website updates and curate images for social media and blog posts.
  • Regularly collect and assess data and analytics across a variety of digital platforms.
  • Research potential new funders and sponsors.
  • Complete online grant application forms and compile information for grant and sponsorship reports.
  • Set up and manage events in Eventbrite.
  • Update lists and member information across multiple platforms, including Excel, Eventbrite, Squarespace, and Twitter.
  • Post-event follow-up and event data processing and analysis.
  • Ensure data integrity with migration, and ongoing updates, to CCVO’s new database.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador to effectively communicate CCVO’s commitment to the nonprofit sector.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary degree, customer service experience, and minimum 2 years' experience in a communications role.
  • Knowledge of and strong interest in working in the nonprofit sector is essential; nonprofit experience (paid or volunteer) is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, ability to meet deadlines and objectives, and excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong aptitude and interest in working with various platforms including Excel, Eventbrite, Squarespace, MailChimp, and Twitter; database/CRM management experience an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with an ability remain flexible to changing situations and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize, and self-identify opportunities and efficiencies.
