Communications and Marketing Manager

Term: 18-months (Maternity Leave)


Position Overview

The Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA) is currently seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate individual to join our team as the Communications and Marketing Manager.

The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for ensuring the professionalism and accuracy in all communications with our member-clubs and soccer families, promoting our positive impact, and ensuring a strong brand image within the community and across all areas of our association. The Communications and Marketing Manager directly supports the organization and the delivery of our services by maintaining and securing sponsorship support for our key activities.

The ideal candidate would have experience in a non-profit environment, is accustomed to working to meet tight deadlines and has a customer-service focus to manage both internal and external client needs.

Occasional evening/weekend work may be required to assist with an urgent communication and/or support a sponsorship activation at a CMSA event or tournament.

You are a professional, creative and outgoing individual. You have a good sense of humour and enjoy working with a diverse and passionate group of people. With strong written and verbal communication skills, along with a high attention to detail and accuracy, you are accustomed to handling and managing multiple projects and demands at the same time. You can quickly shift direction and focus to meet a quick deadline or assist with an urgent task. You have great leadership skills and enjoy working with and supporting a team. Your background in sport and your passion for design are significant assets.


Role and Responsibilities

As the Communications and Marketing Manager, you are responsible for planning, managing and implementing all marketing, communications and promotional campaigns for the organization. This includes managing relationships with key sponsors and fulfilling all sponsorship contract obligations/activations.

Communications and Marketing Responsibilities

  • Oversee all communications for the organization working with staff to ensure all outbound communications are clear and effective while ensuring consistency in formatting and branding
  • Develop, update and manage all website content ensuring it is current
  • Plan monthly and weekly communication calendar/schedules
  • Create and distribute the bi-monthly newsletter
  • Manage media relations; craft and distribute media releases acting as the main point of contact for any press requests
  • Manage (and regularly monitor) all social media activity; responsible for content and graphic creation
  • Prepare and design key documents such as Annual Reports, brochures, presentations and promotional pieces as required by staff
  • Set brand standards and lead brand development initiatives
  • Work with the Executive Director to plan and deliver marketing campaigns
  • Create crisis communication and key messaging
  • Maintain active participation and communication with stakeholders in networking activities
  • Lead Minor Soccer Week activities

Sponsorship Responsibilities

  • Research and prospect potential partners whose values align with CMSA and our key initiatives seeking sponsorship support
  • Work with staff to understand key areas requiring sponsorship support
  • Prepare and present sponsorship proposals
  • Activate and evaluate existing sponsorship relations/contracts
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with sponsors and partners
  • Prepare fulfilment reports at the close of sponsorship terms for major sponsors
  • Renew sponsorship contracts with existing sponsors
  • Sell and manage advertising at the Calgary West Soccer Centre
  • Keep an accurate record/database of existing, past and prospective sponsors


Qualifications and Expertise

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a communication, marketing or community invest portfolio
  • A Post Secondary Degree in Business or Communications
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional time management and decision-making skills
  • A desire to work alongside and support a team
  • A passion for design and proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite is considered a significant asset
  • A love for soccer/sport and being involved in your community
  • An outgoing and personable nature, you thrive in a team environment
