The Community Development Learning Initiative (CDLI) in partnership with carya is looking for a passionate and creative person to join our team!

CDLI is a Calgary-based network of grassroots community leaders, community development practitioners, funders, academics, and others that aim to support people to strengthen communities across Calgary by inspiring learning, engagement, and action. Our collective vision is that all people in Calgary welcome each other and work together to take collective action for common good.

Our work consists of creating opportunities for learning, action, and for developing meaningful connections in relation to community development. This takes place primarily through our monthly Meet Ups and in person events, and through the delivery of our training curriculum. We would like to make better use of our online presence to achieve these objectives.

Working closely with the CDLI Project Lead, you will help vitalize and transform CDLI’s communications channels, increasing our reach and our impact.

We are looking for a new team member to contribute around 15 hours per week on a flexible schedule that may require some evenings and weekend work, with an anticipated total of 300 hours to complete the project.  The anticipated project duration is 5 months.

This role is project-based. We have identified numerous projects, and more may emerge as the work commences.

  • Design and implement a storytelling campaign to engage the CDLI network
  • Support the curation of content for e-newsletter and blog
  • Support brand manual revision and implementation

Qualification & Skills Required:

  • You have proven experience and skills in web design, social media, and creative storytelling
  • You are able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment that requires adaptability and flexibility
  • You are a creative thinker and problem solver who sees solutions differently
  • You have exceptional interpersonal skills - you must be empathetic and able to easily build rapport with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences, and to identify their diverse assets and strengths
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and are comfortable working as a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • You have exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • You must have relevant proven experience with SquareSpace, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Proficiency in photography, film and/or audio creation is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with community development and passion for the not for profit sector is a major asset

Work Environment:

  • This will be a contract position with carya, who is the backbone agency supporting CDLI
  • Evening and weekend work will be required from time to time
  • Days and hours worked are flexible, but will require spending some time physically in our office
  • You will have access to shared office space and may be required to occasionally work in public environments
  • Most of our work time is spent in our downtown office, but we do collaborate with people across the Calgary and host events in all quadrants of the city
