Assistant Coordinator, Community Connections for Newcomers - Full Time 1.0

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta. Since our inception in 1981, we have been a community leader with solid experience in the design and delivery of comprehensive services for our newest neighbours. We deliver these services through a dynamic multi-cultural, multi-denominational and multi-disciplinary team of professionals, who collectively speak over 60 languages.


Reporting to the Manager of our Community Development and Integration Services division, the Assistant Coordinator, CCN is an integral member of our team, supporting Newcomers in their settlement and integration through matching with volunteers, group activities and events that foster positive interactions between the Newcomers and the Canadian community. They will also provide/assist with coordinated community, social and mental health supports for clients affected by trauma.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

●     Coordinate volunteer matches to support newcomers, with a large focus on refugees affected by trauma and/or with complex needs

●     Provide ongoing support and supervision for volunteers working with newcomer clients affected by trauma

●     Facilitate individual and family intakes and needs assessments with newcomers, assessing the need for early intervention in mental health supports

●     Provide ongoing case management and interventions for clients, and coordinate mental health and community support services according to client-identified needs

●     Liaise with resettlement counselors, therapists, and other service providers to address the needs of shared clients

●     Organize and coordinate special events and group activities for clients and volunteers

●     Develop and facilitate workshops for volunteers related to trauma and other relevant topics

●     Maintain up-to-date and relevant community resources for volunteers through email communications, the program blog, or regular newsletters

●     Recruit, orient and match volunteers to support refugee families

●     Maintaining accurate records and documentation

●     Complete evaluation and accurately report on program activities



●     A minimum of a post-secondary diploma in Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology, or related fields (a degree is preferred)

●     Experience working with culturally diverse populations and/ or populations affected by trauma

●     Knowledge of Calgary community and resources

●     Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings and weekends

●     Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

●     Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

●     Strong interpersonal skills

●     Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written methods

●     Excellent organizational and planning skills

●     Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting

●     Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills

●     Ability to communicate in a second language considered an asset

●     Volunteer management/supervision experience an asset
