The Society’s mission is “Preventing harm and neglect to all children and building strong families through support services, respite programs, and crisis nurseries”.  Would you like to make a difference in the lives of Calgary’s children and families? We have an immediate opportunity for a Food Service Coordinator at Brenda’s House!

 Hours are Full Time Monday to Friday from 10:30 am – 6:30pm

 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Develop and implement nutritious meal plans.

  • Prepares and cooks lunch and dinners for the families at the shelter; 45-60 residents.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with families and staff.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety standards are upheld at all times.
  • Responsible for scheduling of kitchen staff and provides direction to part-time cooks, volunteers and/or clients.
  • Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals. Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits. Maintains inventory of food and other related items. Stores food and supplies.
  • Responsible to manage kitchen budget.
  • Performs cleaning duties within the kitchen and serving area, such as cleaning food preparation equipment, cleaning sinks, stoves and counters and washes dishes.
  • Responsible to organize and teach a minimum of 1-2 cooking/nutrition classes per week to residents at Brenda's House.
  • Uphold positive environment for all residents at Brenda's House and engage clients in kitchen activities whenever possible.

  EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

 Experience in prep/cooking for a large number of people

  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to work in an environment with a diverse population with complex needs
  • Good communication skills verbal and written
  • Valid First Aid
  • Valid Food Safety Certification
  • Driver’s License and Vehicle to purchase groceries.

 WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical ability to perform tasks required. Must be capable of regular heavy lifting, and standing for extended periods of time.
