Youth Connections Specialist

 (Youth Portfolio)

Full Time (40 hours/week)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities and accountabilities outlined in this position profile may change as the position evolves along with the growth of the Agency. They include, but are not limited to:

 

• Work in collaboration with natural supports and youth to identify relationship needs, where needed identify basic needs, make referrals, and provide opportunities for positive engagement and growth

• Implement and adhere to industry standards and best practices including working from a trauma informed care, grief and loss, attachment lens, asset-based approach, and positive peer culture

• Plan, organize, and implement recreational and therapeutic activities in and around the Calgary area with youth and their   natural supports

• Develop strategies, treatment and safety plans, informed by harm reduction, to modify and create positive growth

• Make intentional efforts towards the creation of a stable and consistent home-like environment (i.e. - modelling meal preparation and general housework)

• Engage and model respectful and appropriate relationships and professional boundaries with youth and staff team

• Collaborate with youth to follow program expectations and youths’ individualized plans

• Daily documentation and formal report writing as required

• Case management responsibilities for assigned youth with professional and natural supports

• Flexibility to work day, evening and weekend shifts

• Work closely with, or in collaboration with, the Supervisor and Team Leader

 

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

This dynamic role requires our ideal candidate to possess at a minimum the following:

 

  • Diploma or degree in Human Services
  • Previous experience working with children, youth, and families
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written along with computer literacy
  • Strong relationship building skills, with an awareness of the impact of disrupted attachment on families, to allow for and enhance family connects; a good understanding of working with vulnerable youth with challenging behaviours
  • Successful candidate must have a working understanding of harm reduction, trauma informed care, asset-based approach, attachment theory, natural supports framework, and positive peer culture
  • Organized, self-motivated, confident, and able to work with a team and independently
  • Valid driver’s license and current Driver’s Abstract and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • First Aid/CPR and Suicide Intervention (a requirement prior to commencement)
  • Successful candidate must have a clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Intervention Record Check

Hourly Rate:     $45,000 - $48,000 per year, depending on the successful candidate’s experience.
