Student Advocacy Resource Coordinator

The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University is a student-focused, charitable organization where students discover themselves, build meaningful relationships, and make a difference in the world.  SAMRU is currently seeking an organized, approachable, adaptable and thorough Student Advocacy Resource Coordinator to serve our members and support our student services and volunteer management during a temporary leave of absence.


Student Advocacy Resource Coordinator


The Student Advocacy Resource Coordinator provides confidential support to students facing academic and non-academic issues including alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct. The Coordinator helps students become their own best advocates by advising them on university processes and supporting them as they move through those processes. The role also includes providing referrals and attending formal hearing(s) if requested by a student. The Coordinator supervises a small team of part-time assistants in this work.


The successful candidate should possess:

  • A degree in a field related to the work such as Social Work with experience;
  • Proven interpersonal skills and conflict management skills;
  • High tolerance for complexity and ambiguity;
  • Excellent judgement and ability to manage personal boundaries;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Comprehensive computer experience, with MS Office and Outlook;
  • A strengths-based approach to helping students;
  • High level of attention to details;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Case Management experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with Students’ Associations is an asset.


This is a full time position beginning in November 2019 and running for approximately one year. The position offers an annual salary of $41,500 with benefits. The successful candidate must be able to work some flexible hours to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work.
