Family Support Program Leader

Nature & Scope: The Family Support Program Leader is the key leadership role providing direction and foundational coaching to our  “Moving The Fulcrum” model at Highbanks Society. The various modalities of practice within our new model include the provision of trauma-informed interventions, education as a primary, and the principles of facilitating emotionally corrective experiences to increase the wellness indicators at play in the lives of women and children. The role of the Program Leader is to research, develop, facilitate, and measure outcomes of all aspects of the Highbanks PATH planning, (a self-directed asset-based planning process) which exists to guide the academic, personal & social growth of the Mother-Led families of Highbanks. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management

  • Manage the overall Highbanks Programming Module, including elements such as Parent Education, MUM, Group Learning, Nutrition, Sleep, and Child Development and Parenting. 
  • Review and adjust the Program to ensure relevancy and effectiveness of “Moving the Fulcrum” Modules.
  • Research, create and manage the Highbanks mandatory PATH module for program participants at Highbanks.
  • Research and implementation of best practices as it relates to Highbanks program modalities. 
  • Stay abreast of and research best practices to support Highbanks’ families such as education, career, legal issues, budgeting, parenting, health and wellness, self-esteem, etc. ensuring that our program is solidly based in cutting edge research and the social sciences relating to brain health and trauma informed interventions.
  • Develop and implement programs to support planned daily activities as well as organized recreational and social activities with the support of the Family Support Educator.
  • Collaborate in the organization of annual social activities such as: Graduation, BBQ, Holiday, etc.
  • Administer the Christmas Hamper program with the Soroptimist organization.
  • Assist the Executive Director in developing protocol to measure outcomes of the program and track and report statistics.
  • Explore opportunities for children’s programming with openness to new models that enhance early childhood development.
  • Explore opportunities for parenting programming with openness to new models that enhance parenting development.
  • Create and manage an outcome measurement database utilizing best practices and research.

 Community Management

  • Collaborate to create a welcoming and inclusive community with Highbanks at Bowview and the broader Highbanks Community (off-site, alumni, mentors, staff, volunteers).
  • Collaborate in the creation and distribution of the Highbanks Newsletter.
  • Collaborate in the management of the Social Media program for resident communication.
  • Participate in Highbanks activities and events, including fundraising events.
  • Manage Social Media program for resident communication.
  • Act as a spokesperson on behalf of Highbanks when asked by Executive Director.
  • Facilitate tours and welcome guests as necessary.

 Advocacy and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with schools, programs, and community organizations to consolidate resources and enhance programs.
  • Research new and current literature and legislation concerning youth.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders and potential partners on the changing needs and conditions of parenting youth. 
  • Represent Highbanks on committees such as Youth Sector, Align and Canopy.

 Requirements

  • Experience with Trauma-Informed modalities of practices
  • Post-Secondary degree in field such as social sciences, social work, sociology, psychology, non-profit management, or education.
  • Experience developing and facilitating development programs or workshops.
  • Prior knowledge of social service field and agencies in Calgary is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Skilled oral and written communicator.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Apple software, database management experience, skill with using social media as a communication tool.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, able to think quickly and adeptly to address problems and learn from them so they do not reoccur. 
  • Ability to develop and deliver a clear and detailed program plan.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain on focus despite interruptions. 
  • Ability to interact meaningfully with young mothers and children at risk
  • Ability to keep pace within a dynamic and evolving organization.
  • Adaptability, enthusiasm, and knowledge of social justice issues at play in vulnerable populations.
