Sunalta is a residential neighborhood in the Southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. The Sunalta Community Association (SCA) is actively involved in addressing the concerns of this inner-city neighborhood and currently serves a population of just over four thousand people. The mission of the SCA is to build a build a vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive community. We are removing social isolation, improving food security, doing important community economic development work, and creating a community living room, where everyone is welcome to come together to find support, experience culture, share in conversation and enjoy being neighbourly. 

Community Hubs Initiative: Sunalta is thrilled to be one of the sites participating in the Community Hubs Initiative – a partnership between the United Way of Calgary and Area, The City of Calgary and the Rotary Club of Calgary. Five Community Hubs serving more than 200,000 Calgarians are being planned in the communities of Bowness, Greater Forest Lawn, North of McKnight, Sunalta, and Village Square. The Sunalta Community Association spent the past few years in conversation. Dreaming. Conceiving. Imagining possibility. Through the support of Community Hubs partners, Sunalta’s dreams are now becoming realities. We are activating the spaces around the existing Community Hall – eagerly engaging residents each step of the way to ensure our work truly reflects the needs and aspirations of neighbourhood residents.  

Hours of Work: 24 hours/week

Work Schedule: This part-time position will include regular office hours and flex-time to account for evening and weekend obligations.  

Reports to: Executive Director   

Wage: $20.00 to $23.00/hour 

Position Summary: The Facility Manager will be responsible for renting the Community Hall’s two spaces – the Club Room and Main Hall – in accordance with the defined facility rental process. The Manager is also responsible for overseeing the building’s regular cleaning and maintenance schedule, ensuring excellence in facility safety and cleanliness. The Manager will be expected to consistently seek ways to gain greater efficiencies and ways to make the space a more welcoming, inclusive, and environmentally conscious place. 


Hall Rentals

  • Respond to customer inquiries, conduct hall viewings, explain rental terms and conditions, and complete Hall Rental Agreements
  • Prepare daily, weekly, & monthly booking schedules for the Club Room and Main Hall
  • Financial management: issue invoices; accept payment; issue receipts; and ensure damage deposits are returned. 
  • Complete monthly financial reports
  • Market the Community Hall and seek out new renters 
  • Complete regular hall inspections to ensure that renters have not damaged the space or left the space in a dirty, un-rentable condition. 
  • Evaluate and make improvements to current rental policies and systems
  • Be available for after hours emergency calls 

Facility Management

  • Regularly maintain the common storage areas to ensure renter items are not stored at the Hall and that the space is clean and accessible.  
  • Oversee and schedule regular hall maintenance, specifically items concerning building safety, cleanliness, and accessibility.
  • Oversee and schedule the Hall cleaning and liaise with the cleaning company to ensure daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual cleaning tasks are carried out with excellence 
  • Perform quality control of vendor’s performance – specifically hall maintenance, cleaning, and grounds keeping (i.e. snow removal)
  • Continuously seek ways to gain greater efficiencies through researching, recommending, and implementing best practices
  • Create and implement annual facility management plans – collaborate with relevant stakeholders to evaluate capital assets and to make recommendations to the Executive Director for maintenance, repair, and replacement 
  • Work with the Executive Director to write and submit facilities grants – such as the Municipal Capital Conservation Grant (CCG) and the Provincial Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) or Community Initiatives Program (CIP). 
  • Work with the ED to create and implement a Social Procurement Policy for the Hall  


  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Experience with facility management or program/space rentals 
  • Experience managing a calendar or booking system 
  • Strong financial and administrative skills, experience with accounts receivable a must 
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Gmail, and the Microsoft Suite 
  • Strong business acumen
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Passionate about building community and welcoming and inclusive spaces
