Manager - Communications and Engagement

As the Manager of Communications and Engagement, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy. You will actively build awareness for the Federation’s programs and services while positioning us as a capacity builder for non-profit organizations.  You will be comfortable developing and implementing both operational and strategic goals.   As a manager, you will play a key role advancing the Federation’s strategic plan consistent with the established mission, goals, objectives, and policies of the Federation.    

RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Development
  • Supports the executive director in setting and delivering on the organizational work plan
  • Assists and/or leads on internal policy development and external policy analysis
  • Identifies, designs and implements a variety of plans such as the communications, media, government relations and public policy
  • Proactively work with the executive director to enhance stakeholder and government relationships
  • Collect, analyze and interpret feedback and other analytics developing and implementing recommendations as needed
    • Participates in strategic discussions with the board as needed
    • Develops and delivers presentations to build capacity of members
    • Review all content that is viewed publicly
    • Develop a strategy that expands the audience through community relations, speaking engagements, newsletters and charitable events.
  • Ensure effective development, delivery and evaluation of programs that will contribute to the achievement of the Federation’s mission and goals.
Public Relations and Communications
  • Take a lead role in generating opportunities to share and promote The Federation (ie. Media, funders, government) as well as meeting with stakeholders as appropriate
  • Coordinate media relations (i.e. develop relationships and write all PSA, media releases)
  • Research, write or direct, edit, proofread and produce high quality print and electronic materials
  • Develop, communicate and market both internally and externally, the organization’s, mission, vision and values.
  • Work with sponsors and business partners to grow our profile and theirs; assist in preparing stewardship reports

 

People Engagement

  • Oversee all communication and engagement staff (3 FTE’s plus summer student) directly through, workplan development, coaching and evaluation.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to the Engagement Team (5 FTE’s plus summer students).
  • Ensure staffing in the Community Engagement team is appropriate and consistent with member needs and within the constraints of the physical and financial resources of the organization.  
  • Recruit, select, orient and train staff members as needed and ensure cross training.
  • Coach member organizations to adopt best practices
