Position Summary
We are currently seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for working with adolescent girls in the school and community.

The Starburst program is an innovative multi-faceted program for junior high girls, engaging them in an ongoing basis over a three year period.  The program includes group psycho-educational programming during school time, after school recreation sessions, family engagement, and group volunteering, mentoring and individual support.  The program operates year round and provides activities on some school breaks and weekends.  The program is supported through the collaborative effort of many community services.

The primary focus of this position will be fostering the resiliency and the confidence of adolescent girls; supporting the development of positive self-concept, self-esteem, and leadership skills; healthy peer and family relationships; school engagement, community connections and a sense of belonging.  This will involve working as a member of a team in partnership with school staff, service providers and agency partners.

In this position, you will actively plan, coordinate and deliver psycho-educational programming, recreational programming and outreach connections with youth and their families.  You will participate in supervisory meetings, team meetings, program planning sessions and in-service training opportunities to ensure effective delivery of this innovation program.

  • A commitment to working from a collaborative, flexible and responsive stance with youth, family, school, volunteers and community
  • A flexible schedule to accommodate afterschool programming and occasional evening and weekend hours

The preferred candidate must successfully complete all required security clearances and have or be willing to obtain First Aid Certification, Class 4 driver’s license and business vehicle insurance.   This position functions as a strong role model and as such, preference will be given to female candidates.
