Youth and Family Support Worker

Who we are:

Pathways is an Indingeous non-profit agency that has been supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families since 1988. Guided by Indigenous traditions and teachings, Pathways offers evidence-informed, supportive services to people in the Calgary area as they strengthen their circles of self, family, community, and culture.

The Indigenous Mentor Homes program is a family-based residential support program for Indigenous youth aged 12 to 17 years. Individual youth live with Mentor Home Providers who meet their basic needs, mentor the youth in social and emotional skill development, teach life and living skills, and support cultural identity and practice. Each youth in the program is connected with a Support Worker who works intensively to mentor and support the youth so that they can reach their goals. 

What we need:

We are looking for someone who really likes teenagers and is passionate about Indigenous community and culture! Someone who is energetic, creative, and not afraid to try new things. We need someone who has strong mentorship skills and an ability to work flexible hours. 

What you will be doing:

  • coordinate with families to better support the youth living in their home
  • collaborate with Children's Services Case Workers to create safety and consistancy for youth
  • provide intensive support, guidance, and teaching directly to youth
  • support youth for success in school
  • plan, develop and engage in positive activities in the community with youth
  • support families and youth in crisis situations on an on-call basis
  • encourage youth to embrace their culture as a path to healing and growth

  What qualifications we are looking for: 

  • degree in Human Services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • willingness to embrace Indigenous culture as a pillar of practice and to add to their knowledge and understanding in this area
  • 2-5 years’ experience working with vulnerable children and/or families
  • understanding of the impact of trauma, loss and grief on child development and behaviour
  • strong teamwork skills
  • energetic and passionate approach to youth engagement
  • good organizational and data management skills
  • a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license.
