WiseGuyz Manager

Centre for Sexuality is a nationally recognized, community-based organization delivering programs and services that work to normalize sexuality and sexual health across the lifespan. We have been leading the way in the areas of sexuality, healthy relationships, human rights, gender identity, sexual orientation, equality and consent for more than 40 years in the Calgary community. 

This position is responsible for leading the WiseGuyz Team. We are looking for a candidate who has a strong background in leadership and supporting team members.  WiseGuyz is an award-winning program of the Centre for Sexuality. WiseGuyz engages young men in junior high and community-based settings in a weekly program that has four modules: healthy relationships; sexual health; gender, sexuality and the media; and human rights and leadership. WiseGuyz helps young men understand the connection between masculinity and male norms, sexuality and violence; provides targeted education, skills development, and support to young men to help them achieve sexual well-being and healthy relationships.

 

Reporting to the Director of Programs, key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading the WiseGuyz team including hiring, training, ongoing coaching and mentorship of staff.
  • Leading annual strategic planning for the team, including curriculum reviews, training processes and establishing annual priorities.
  • Participating as a member of the WiseGuyz research team made up of partners from the University of Calgary, Independent evaluators/researchers and Centre for Sexuality Staff.
  • Supporting the growth and scaling of the WiseGuyz program.
  • Contributing to annual program evaluations and funder reports.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with community partners.
  • Participating in relevant community development activities, events and committees to build and maintain relationships with key community stakeholders.
  • Participating in regular performance planning and reviews.

 

Desired qualifications include:

  • A combination of relevant experiences and/or related educational backgrounds.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of community development approaches and demonstrated success working with communities, including the ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Ability and comfort working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and comfort with topics related to sexuality, gender, sexual health, and sexual diversity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team leader and enthusiastic member of the leadership team.
  • Commitment to organizational values and beliefs including the use of a pro-choice philosophy and commitment to anti oppressive practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle and be able to work flexible hours.
