Temporary Team Lead, Community Counselling Program

Temporary Full-Time (35 hours per week)

3 month term (July 1, 2018 – September 30, 2018)

The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter (CWES) is here to support individuals and families in their efforts to live free from family violence and abuse. This position is a three month temporary Team Lead role for the Community Services Counselling Program, Children’s Outreach Counselling Program, and Court Program.

The temporary Team Lead provides support to the day to day operations of the client centered Community Services Counselling Program, Children’s Outreach Counselling Program, and Court Program, which offer services for clients living with family violence and abuse out in the community.  The temporary Team Lead provides clinical support respecting client care, monthly clinical consults, and risk management.

The Team Lead provides daily updates to the Manager of Community Services Counselling Program to ensure the delivery of optimum client care. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use a Response Based Theoretical client centered approach (oral and written) in providing daily clinical support and monthly scheduled clinical consults.
  • Support day to day programming, communicate any program gaps, and provide assistance and support to the Manager of Community Services Counselling Program in executing plans to improve client care delivery.
  • Support the Counsellors and Court Case Coordinators to ensure completion of the Outlook booking calendar and utilization of the Safeteam System.
  • Review client referrals and assign to appropriate Community Services Counsellor, Children’s Outreach Counsellor, or Court Case Coordinator.  Notify the Manager of Community Services Counselling Program of any referrals requiring attention. 
  • Support with reviewing and scheduling referrals to the Calgary Legal Guidance Clinic.  Attendance to support the Calgary Legal Guidance Clinic on assigned days.
  • Other duties as assigned to support Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter clients and programs.  

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Social Work with at least three years related experience in community-based services, and/or crisis intervention. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in client counselling, program implementation, and performance management is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with family violence and abuse and knowledge of court services and processes are an asset.
  • Commitment to understanding cultural humility, diversity and supporting equality of opportunities.
  • Strong knowledge and linkage to external services and systems that are available for clients.
  • Effective crisis management skills displayed by in depth exploration and by providing calm, clear, concise direction.
  • Previous experience working within Scott Miller’s Feedback Informed Treatment is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English.  A second language would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated effective and engaging interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills in complex situations that align with the policies and procedures.
  • Responds well to challenges. Positive attitude, good listener and problem solver.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with strengths in prioritization and efficiencies in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and adapt to various situations and workloads.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work together in a team setting by being positive, professional and approachable.
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries with counsellors and clients.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Response Based Approach would be an asset.
  • The ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality to safeguard the security of women and children experiencing family violence and abuse.

Other Information

  • CPR, First Aid, and ASIST certification is required.
  • A criminal records search and an intervention record check are conditions of employment.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle.  Mileage will be reimbursed.
  • If eligible for registration with a professional body, registration must be current.
