Team Leader

In partnership with Children’s Services Indigenous (IS) office, Mahmawi-atoskiwin works alongside individuals and their families to create a Family Wellness Team.  Mahmawi-atoskiwin is a program within an alliance of three agencies:  Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, Enviros and Pathways Community Service Association. Our staff engage with families to address the concerns that brought their involvement with Children’s Services. We do this by working alongside families, connecting them with Indigenous culture and ceremonies, enhancing family wellbeing and safety, and reuniting children with family or into an alternate living situation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Team Leader is responsible for providing leadership, mentorship and support to a team of Family Wellness Partners (FWP) and Lodge Keepers (LK).   It also offers a unique opportunity to expand and enhance the successful candidate’s own experience with Indigenous culture and ceremony, while supporting strategies that allow staff and clients to integrate this into practice.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support staff to develop and implement safety and wellness plans with families
  • Ensure that culture and practice frameworks are integrated into services and that staff and families have access to cultural resources specialists
  • Build strong internal and external relationships with stakeholders
  • Provide crisis intervention, support and safety planning with families, staff and CS
  • Assists in problem solving, conflict resolution and advocacy  
  • Provide support after hours through on-call systems
  • Establishes common objectives, creating a feeling of team belonging
  • Maintain staff scheduling, performance management, coaching and feedback to staff 
  • Review client files to ensure accreditation standards are met
  • Establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results
  • Assist with data collection and reporting
  • Identify opportunities to enhance services, increasing positive outcomes for families
  • Facilitate connections between Mahmawi-atoskiwin and programs within the Alliance
  • Support the fiscal integrity of the program
  • Attend team meetings, case conferences and family mappings when required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in a human services field
  • Minimum five years’ exp. working with vulnerable children, youth and families preferred
  • Cultural sensitivity, openness to engage in and learn from Indigenous ceremonies
  • Plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with program goals
  • Engages in reflective feedback to gain insight into personal strengths and weaknesses
  • Experience building partnerships and working collaboratively to meet shared objectives
  • Possess knowledge of Children’s Services and the Family Enhancement Act
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, normative child development, loss and grief  
  • Promotion of Indigenous resiliency and wellbeing into service delivery
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  • Problem solving, organizing and analytical skills
  • Initiative, supportive team player, ensures accountability, situational adaptability
  • Work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the staff team and families
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as excellent oral and written skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR, clear security clearances
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability, permission to carry passengers and business coverage on the vehicle
  • Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract with minimal demerits.
