Social Services Research Coordinator

The Calgary Food Bank is currently looking for a Social Services Research Coordinator to join it's Client Services team! Reporting to the Manager, Research & Client Services, this position is responsible for the evaluation of impact the Calgary Food Bank’s service offerings has on its clients and community.  

It is responsible for building and supporting the development of research projects, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and making recommendations as part of the Calgary Food Bank’s integrated program planning and evaluation process. The Coordinator might also be required to assist in identifying and communicating technical problems, processes and solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Using an in-depth knowledge of research design and demonstrated expertise with a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, designing, conducting and supporting Calgary Food Bank research.
  • Apply a systematic approach to analyzing evidence that supports organizational decision making by conducting systematic reviews, data scans, gap analysis and use of other best practices.
  • Identify indicators and make recommendations for measuring progress towards achieving program goals.
  • Design, conduct and oversee the evaluation of programs, including performance management.
  • Ensure effective management of the monitoring and evaluation process focusing on the following; Interpret data and information, define issues, develop and assess options and make feasible recommendations.
  • Make recommendations for monitoring, evaluation and research initiatives which will increase programs’ effectiveness and support strategic planning.
  • Develop, coordinate and lead quality improvement processes to ensure effective and efficient program implementation.
  • Assist in communicating technical issues, processes and solutions.
  • Performing other duties as required by the Manager.

Tasks Performed:

  • Maintain detailed and organized project documentation. Perform accurate and efficient data entry as the impact for error is high.
  • Develop, modify, optimize, test and implement real time quantitative models and strategies, generate new indicator ideas.
  • Coordinate and conduct data collection; develop recruiting materials, recruit subjects, obtain participant consent and conduct interviews and observations. May involve collaborating with agencies and/or institutions for data collection.
  • Synthesize complex information into customized reports and presentations, aligning knowledge translation methods to the needs of the intended users.
  • Liaise with the Manager and IT team and assist in communicating technical issues, processes and solutions.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposal writing.
  • Assist with proposal writing and project management related to research projects including coordination and liaising with team members, providing feedback, and facilitating meetings.
  • Ensures that everyone they come in contact with at the Food Bank whether donor, volunteer, client, agency representative and those in partnerships with the CIFB are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Primary administrative point of contact for external and internal research and as the principle liaison for other organizations, universities, funding agencies and regulating bodies.

Education, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Degree in policy studies, statistics, economics, or social sciences.
  • Experience in the application of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods (including instrument development, data collection, analysis and report writing).
  • A combination of various educational backgrounds and experience will be considered.
  • Proficient with various computer systems and software programs, including data management (MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SPSS, Project), online survey platforms (i.e. Survey Monkey) and familiarity with SharePoint.
  • Strong written and oral skills for the use in the development of oral presentations, summaries, reports, journal articles, systematic literature reviews and manuscripts, etc.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the development and implementation of logic models and measurement plans.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and relationship building skills to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all partners.
  • Project management abilities.
  • Experience in the not for profit industry is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of MySQL, Java, or PHP is an asset.
  • Experience in proposal writing is an asset.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements if any:

This is a full time 7.5 hours a day, 37.5 hours per week role and spends most of the day working in offices and occasionally traveling to meetings. Must be comfortable changing work environments regularly and standing or sitting for long hours. There may be a need for occasional after hours and weekend work.
