Social Media & Fund Development Assistant

With funding from the Federal Government’s Canada Summer Jobs program, Breast Cancer Supportive Care is looking for a Social Media and Fund Development Assistant (30 hours/week).  This individual will report to our Executive Director and works on tasks related to fundraising, event planning and social media

Breast Cancer Supportive Care is a not-for-profit community based organization that provides medical care and support to breast cancer patients and their families.  We operate a medical clinic that is staffed by a team of health care professionals specialized in breast cancer care.  Our Foundation exists to support our clinic, as we rely on the generosity of donors and fundraising initiatives to help us provide our services in the community.

The position is perfect for a creative and collaborative individual with a calm demeanor who prides himself/herself on being highly organized. You also must be a problem solver and take ownership of your job.

Working with a small team, you will be exposed to a variety of responsibilities in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities Fund Development:

  • Assist with imputing donor and volunteer information into a database and ensure database information is up-to-date and free of redundancies
  • Assist with event planning and execution
  • Contact community stakeholders to solicit silent auction items

Primary Responsibilities Social Media:

  • Help maintain organization’s social media channels and implement a content calendar
  • Research and create written, graphic and video content
  • Promote signature fundraising events

Additional Responsibilities

  • Help research and create patient and clinic materials

Required Skills

  • Currently studying communications, public relations and/or journalism
  • Proficiency in social media channels
  • Strong writing skills (writing samples required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint
  • Keen attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple and changing priorities
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident and legally entitled to work and study in Canada
  • Attended a high school or post-secondary institution in 2017-18 and returning to school full time in the following school year.

This is a temporary, 8 week summer student position available between May – August, 2018.
