Recruitment and Training Officer

Immigrant Services Calgary is seeking a full-time Recruitment and Training Officer for the Adult Learning, Literacy and Essential Skills Program: Integrating Key Essential Skills in Newcomer Career Transition in the IT Industry (ALLESP), a collaborative national project that is being implemented in Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. The project aims to enhance the employment integration outcomes of newcomer IT professionals through providing training in occupation-specific literacy and essential skills and engaging employers in the training process. The Recruitment and Training Officer will coordinate the design, development, and delivery of the training, including being responsible for recruiting and selecting eligible clients, needs identification, training curricula development, coordinating training delivery, contributing to the training evaluation and assessment, disseminating the training modules to the community and immigrant services providers. This position reports to the Project Manager.


  • Recruiting participants and assisting in the selection of suitable candidates for the project
  • Implementing and assisting in the continued development of the Adult Literacy and Essential Skills training framework, which includes:
  • Organizing training sessions of blended on-site and in-class training
  • Conducting pre-program Essential Skills assessment for each participant
    • Conducting evaluation of the training, which includes a post-training Essential Skills assessment of participants
    • Conducting focus groups with participants and employers
    • Ongoing monitoring of the participants’ employment status
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Education, Business, Communication, Humanities or related discipline  
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
  • Thorough understanding of the local labor market, education/training systems and resources; strong knowledge of employment issues and barriers experienced by newcomer professionals in the IT field
  • Strong networking and presentation skills; ability to communicate effectively with participants, employers and other stakeholders
  • Proficiency in problem solving
  • Organizational skills in planning and scheduling with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Well organized, positive, works well under pressure and a proactive team player
  • Strong IT knowledge and a minimum 2-3 years of work experience in the IT field
  • Able to work evenings and weekends on a need basis
