Recovery Trainers - 2 Positions, Daytime/Evening Availability

POSITION TITLE:             Recovery Trainers (2 positions)

JOB STATUS:                    Full-Time Permanent

HOURS:                            Daytime and Evening (up to three (3) Evenings per


  • An undergraduate degree in a social service, health or education field.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of issues relating to supporting people with lived experience of mental health and/or addiction.
  • Three (3) years of experience working in the mental health/addiction sector, with a deep commitment to and understanding of the recovery model.
  • Understanding and experience working within a peer support model is an asset.
  • ASIST training or previous experience working with people in crisis or experiencing suicidal feelings is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in group/classroom facilitation and experience with a broad audience, from youth to adults.
  • Knowledge and experience in prevention, engagement, and promotion in mental health, demonstrating strong collaborative and relationship skills with key stakeholders.
  • A passion for delivering recovery orientated services.
  • Cultural competency in working with diverse groups.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle (delivery of workshops across the city).
  • Have previously assisted in the development of engagement strategies with hard to reach and underserved groups including but not limited to; youth, seniors and ethno-cultural groups is an asset.
  • Lived experience of a mental health and/or addiction issue or supporting a loved one, would be considered an asset.

 Client Service Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of workshops within schools, universities, the CMHA Recovery College and in the community.
  • Provide group recovery and skills training sessions for people living with mental health and/or addiction in the CMHA Recovery College.
  • Research, tailor and create curriculum, ensuring they meet target population and community need, in collaboration with Peer Support Workers and Recovery College
  • Co-facilitate sessions, courses and drop in groups across all four quadrants of the city.
  • Promote the recovery philosophy and empower people with skills to live independently as part of a supportive and engaged community.
  • Participate in coalition building and networking with community groups and individuals to further the recovery movement through a community development model.
  • Compile appropriate and meaningful community resources for group participants.


  • Excellent public speaking, group facilitation, training and communication skills
  • Ability to research and create courses to meet community and population specific needs in collaboration with Peer Support Workers.
  • Ability to engage with youth, family members and caregivers.
  • Demonstrated ability to use outcomes data training sessions to drive and improve services.
  • You are a self-starter and are able to apply a critical lens to program delivery and design.
  • Work using a community development lens in program delivery.
  • A deep commitment to, and understanding of, the recovery model, harm reduction philosophy, strengths based and empowerment approach.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
